BREAKING NEWS
Oquendo's paycheck frozen!
By Flattop[/Size=

Win or lose on Saturday, Fres Oquendo will not see a dime of his paycheck at the end of the day for fighting IBF heavyweight champion Chris Byrd. A Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) and preliminary injunction has been granted against Oquendo stating, ?that Oquendo?s purse for the fight (against Byrd) shall be held in escrow.? The TRO was filed by Michael Joyce, who is listed as the manager of Fres Oquendo, in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois on Wednesday. Judge Sheldon Gardner allowed the injunction and scheduled a hearing on September 23rd to determine the merit of case. According to court documents, Joyce is claiming that Oquendo has not paid his managerial split of 33 1/3% for several fights. The court documents indicate Joyce was an amateur coach for Oquendo and he did work in his corner during his early professional career. Joyce was also the manager for Oquendo at the beginning of his pro career. Clarence Burch, the attorney for Oquendo, was in court on Wednesday when the TRO and temporary injunction was granted. The litigation was filed in Cook County because Oquendo was born in Chicago and had maintained a residence in the area, although court papers indicate he may live in Puerto Rico currently. Ironically Oquendo?s previous nickname was the ?Big O? and his paycheck on Saturday will be a ?Big O? until the courts decide. The court order was handwritten because of the expedited (rushed) manner in which the injunction was determined.

I think Fres might be a little off his game if he is fighting for no pay. That sucks.

Byrd may really slam him and jump him now.

hmmmm don't know about slam and jump as that doesn't seem to be byrd's mo. but byrd has alot of boxing skills and maybe the best heavyweight out there that isn't a super heavyweight. those guys are just too big for byrd. oquendo ain't one of them. oquendo has skills too and some speed and some power, so i don't think it's a gimme like i think the brewer fight is but the odds ain't that big either. i just think byrd is by far the better skilled fighter and should probably decision fres but i wouldn't be surprised if he ko's him should oquendon get tired as he has
shown he is apt to do. oquendo could win but i highly doubt it.
and now as you say he is fighting for no money. phew what a way to go. good luck on whatever you do.

well brewers in the bank and i feel real good bout byrd but am nervous with garcia. much like fields he has knocked out 25 of 26 and thus has gone over 4 rounds like twice. will he have the stamina to go into the later rounds with wells. wells isn't a knockout type guy by his record so he is probably more a boxer type. garcia hasn't fought out of mexico more than twice and his first 20 or 21 fights were in his hometown. neither fighter has fought anybody of any repute actually. but here's hoping garcia can do the fields thing and prove he can actually go the distance if he doesn't knock wells out. gonna check to see if a wells by decison is a possible hedge. actually wells might be the better value but i think garcia will win.
