I've heard they're good with kids
The only negative I've come across is that a lot of people find their odor to be foul.
Get the parrot, ferrets stink up the house. I lived with Fred Pollack (former KC Chiefs lineman) and a few other football players in college and they had ferrets. They fucking stunk up the joint.

we had a collection of public show and tell animals.

Macaws need beau coup attention and WILL bite...we used to feed them Brazil nuts (big, thick shell, they snapped them in half)
Their "Macaw" call at sunrise will wake the dead.
They also shit up a storm and can live to be 80+.
I know of a couple that got one in a will, it was 39, after 3 months, they donated it.
Ferrets do better as a pair, they will use a cat litter box...get a habitat with chutes, slides, cigar box hide-outs.
They can be quite tame and very enjoyable...habitat needs regular cleaning , just as ANY captive pet.
My advice, get a Lab...

That's what I've heard Kneifl - Is it a gland, scent or just dirty ass animal?
Can't really explain how bad they stunk. I liked the ferrets but they shit constantly. I was dating a hot chick at that time and we spent more time at her place (which was shitty, she had no TV) than mine because she couldn't stand the smell.

Knew a guy who had one, he regularly bathed it and cleaned the littler box and that thing was great. A bird is just not hands on enough for me
Uh, how's about the fact that ferrets literally have eaten baby noses and fingers off? If you have no kids, go for it, just don't sleep in the buff. If you do have kids and are seriously considering it...time to reconsider.
I knew a guy who went to our local Petco and bought a ferret and he never woke up the next morning. Fucking thing crawled down the mans esophagus and built a nest in his stomach.
