Someone was in a jam and I had to send him a few bucks so I go to WU online. I haven't used it for so long that my account was closed so I registered again and went through the steps to send the money.

A couple hours go by and the money still wasn't available to the receiver so I called WU. I waited on hold for about 35 minutes and my call was finally picked up. Why do they make you punch in the control number at the beginning of the call if they are still going to ask you for it later in the call? Idiots! Anyway, in the middle of giving him the CN I get disconnected. Now I have to go through the whole fucking process again! Fuck!

This time I only waited about 20 minutes to get through and give him the control number. I ask what the problem is and he tells me that they were waiting for me to call because there are a few things they need to know first. How the hell would I know to call?

They ask me about 20 questions; birth date, email address, who am I sending to, how do I know this person, why am I sending the money, will I be sending more money at a later date, etc, etc. At the end of the questioning he says to hold on and he'll be right back. About 5 minutes later he comes back and said I failed the security questions and they couldn't send the money. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GUYS DOING OVER THERE?

I let the guy have it and hung up, went to Money Gram, registered, sent the money and completed the transaction in about 10 minutes.

WTF is Western Union's problem? I will NEVER, EVER, use them EVER again.

This WU was totally legit and exactly why there is a WU. Sending money to someone that needs it quickly and needs cash. Now.

What happens when you send to Costa Rica to a sportsbook guy named Pedro Jesus Juan Maria Munoz?

Fuck Western Union.

Fuck Western Union.

years ago i received money from some bookmaker that used wu , sender
was private person and amount was around 5-6k. first, drawing money
from bm took weeks and when i finally received coupon i went to local wu "customer
service"-cashdesk, went through similar ?-hour questioning, how you know him,
why this amount yadda yadda. then it takes another 20min and they tell me
that they can give me only 2k and rest of the money will be credited to my bank
account and that costs $120 or so... i was like :bsflag

In life as a whole, nothing is more maddening than shitty service over the phone. It makes me go full tilt bonkers.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
Never had a problem...but about 2 years ago 5 Dimes suggested I stop having them send me money via WU due to WU transactions they know being increasingly flagged for gambling, fraud or money laundering - after which WU then keeps the money, returns it to no one....Used MG since....

edit: Well, after reading some about it, I suppose when MG gets hit with similar federal investigations and supoenas, they will get skittish and tighten up big time too....
