Was at the Duke/UNC game in 1979 when score was 8-0 Duke at the half. Smith played 4 corners to start the game and Bubas would not chase. Second half score was 40-40 and Duke wins by 8.
I hated that 4 corners. I think it was around 1977 when Smith went to it too early with the lead over Marquette in NCAA finals. Al McGuire also chose to not chase and UNC lost the game.
Of course when you had Phil Ford with the ball you could play keep away.
