First off...it's a good thing I'm only typing because my voice is gone.
Damn, was it hot! 111, 471 sweaty people elbow to elbow makes for an uncomfortable day.
After all the crap I could complain about, the thing that bothers me most is...how the hell does John Navarre, who stands 6'6" tall, get so many freaking passes batted down! Of course, the kicking game sucks. Before halftime ended, both kickers were out on the field early practicing. Brabbs was still missing!! That's why Carr made the change to go with Neinberg. His first PAT was very close to being off the mark, but it went through...then he missed what we all thought was the game winner. Then, in comes Brabbs at the end.
The only difference I saw with the new off. coord. was they passed alot on 1st down. I'd like to see him go for the deep ball a little more. It worked once on the Edwards TD and Navarre just overthrew Bellamy on another try. They have to get TE Bennie Joppru more involved. He was open down the seam soooo many times. They ran that stupid screen to Askew 4 times and only gained positve yardage once.
Navarre was ok. Pretty much mistake free, or did he get picked once?? I can't remember.
On defense, I stated earlier in the week that Pickett would get his yards. Passing for more than 300 didn't suprise me at all. I thought Marlin Jackson played a hell of a game in stopping Williams. With the exception of that 59 yard run, Washington only had 20 yards rushing, so the run defense did an excellent job. The secondary seemed a little timid of Washington's speed. I thought the corners were playing too far off, and the slant was open all day.
I never thought that Carr would call on the FG unit at the end of the game. How stupid can you be to have 12 men on the field coming out of a timeout! Even when I saw the flags, I was like so what, there's only 5 seconds left. I had no idea that that was a 15 yard penalty. I was in the corner of the endzone where the kick went through. Absolute pandemonium! Of all the games I've been to, I've never witnessed a game winning FG as time expired. What a game! I had a blast!
