What area to stay in Boston?

Alright guys staying at the colonnade Hotel in Back Bay. Plan to hit Fenway(and surrounding bars), parts of freedom trail, and might even try to take in the Pats game. Aside from artsy stuff, are there any "can't miss" things you suggest? Restaurants(Casual), Bars, best shopping, places to avoid? We will have a group of 8, anything group oriented? Thanks guys, looking forward to it!
