What do you guys think.......

Not sure how the value would compare to other teams, but they are stronger than last year.

Starting pitching is solid still with Maddux, Glavine, and now hopefully Marquis will develop into a legit starter. Millwood, too. In the pen you have Smoltz who should be solid. Setup guys might be down a little from last year, but still some arms and a couple young guys in pen who may get a shot.

IF has Furcal throwing darts again and should help the lineup. Castilla supposedly has a decent amount of bat speed but not sure how he'll do. Giles is ok and 1b is open.

OF probably stronger than last year although Jordan would get hot and on good streaks. Shef, Chipper and Andruw should be solid, especially if A Jones hits a little more. Like Jordan but like this OF better.

Biggest positive might be additional of Pendleton to fill in for the loss of Jordan in the clubhouse. Good move there. Stability and someone to keep the position players in line.

Like there chances, but I guess that's obvious :)

Worth a shot

Worth a shot

One things is for sure, if the Braves are in it late in the season they wont have problem upgrading the team via trades.
I think its worth a couple bucks, could be a great hedge play late in the season to have in your back pocket.

Too much freaking rain in the sky. Making me go crazy (and spend some more time browsing MJs)

Braves are in a good spot this year. I really think it will be an easy 11th east title in a row and then after that its anyone's guess. Last year they got the best matchups in the playoffs and just werent able to beat 'Zona. But that's who they needed to play because they could have won a cheap 1-0 or 2-1 game against one of the dbacks aces. But with a little more pop in the lineup it might make Andruw Jones press less and really the deciding factor might be Pendleton.... not as a coach as much as a presence in the clubhouse. Sheffield is a plus with the bat but a loss (compared to Jordan) in the clubhouse. But there's got to be some sense of urgency this year. Plus, looks like AOL is loosening up the purse strings so if something is on the table I think bravos will bite unlike other years. But that's just my laymans opinion.

Raymond,
Not much talent out there in your neck of the woods this year. In the warmer weather I may try to see some of the Clark Griffith games out there in Salisbury and spend the weekend at the beach. Been working with a guy who's a manager at seacrets in OC so you'll have to drive down and have a couple cold ones sometime this summer. Ever been there? tons of women.... oh yeah, I guess I'm the single one.... oh well :D

don`t know?

don`t know?

Got Chipper in of. "worried about the ball going off the tip of my glove." Also A. Jones can "help me out because he covers so much more territory than I can."Pitchers getting older-Got rid of most of their interstructal scouting system( eg as Jim Martz), Lady person from Time Warner informed him he & lots others were terminated in a cost cutting move by the company. Atlanta Braves are on the "Downslide".Bring back Ted Turner, least he wanted a winner. Not just a cost efficent operation.:(

"starting pitching on the Braves is still solid with Maddux and Glavine "

You can look at the last two years and see that these two guys are starting to wind down. They are going to go about the same time which does not bode well for Braves success. I would venture to say Maddux will lose it first and Glavine as the year progresses. Maddux has been hit hard in spring training and the defense behind him always seems to not play for some reason.

Wagering against Maddux is what I plan to do as soon as I see him pitch a few in the regular season.

Other problems for Braves is Lopez is just not the catcher he used to be. First base is still open with Franco an afterthought.
Braves get Castillo back when he is about done. Chipper in left field should have been done years ago.
Sheffield in the clubhouse will eventually be disruptive. Pendleton will not know what to do when the Braves dont hit.

Looks like the Mets this year to me.

gotta disagree with the scouting statement.... atlanta's system is well respected and you've got guys turning down more prestigious jobs elsewhere to stay in atlanta.

as for pitchers on the slide, maddux @ 17-7 3.05 230 IP 220 H and glavine 16-7 3.57 for a LHP isnt shabby and I think most teams would take that.

oh well ,this could go on forever..... but hopefully there will be a little sun around here so I won't be part of it

Just keep thinking that way about the Braves and you will lose your ars.

Just watch when Maddux pitchs the first game. Guaranteed loss.
I live here in Atlanta and have followed this team a long time. They will really surprise me if they get to the playoffs. This team is on a downword spiral. First match with NY Mets , Mets take them two out of three. Questions in bullpen with untested rookies that can throw fast but will be wild in crunch time.
Smoltz is one pitch away from ending his carreer with that reconstructed elbow. Now dont get me wrong, I hope the Braves make it to the world series. But lets face reality.

Good Luck.....lets get the baseball show on the road !
