What happened to the adage of bowing out gracefully?

There are two leaders,in different fields, who are under pressure to step down from there lofty perches. But they are both showing that they will not go down gracefully.

Cardinal Law from Boston is under extreme pressure to leave his post.He is refusing at this time because he feels he could help his paritioners better if he stays. He is being accused of turning a blind eye to justice. He has known that one of his priests(think his name is Shanley)has been a sexual preditor for close to 30 years.Instead of handling it the proper way,Cardinal Law transfers this priest to another state & when he was asked if this priest was a problem,Cardinal Law answers no.

Congressman Trafficant has been found guilty of I think close to 30 counts of breaking the law.Instead of showing contrition,Congressman Trafficant exits the courthouse cursing everyone in sight. He expects to keep his job & even seek re-election.Instead of stepping down & making plans to appeal his case, which is his constitutional right,he plans to take his position in Congress like nothing happened.Congress is image conscious. His fellow congressman are demanding that he resign.
He will have absolutely no power.

Both of these leaders are suppose to set an example of the right thing to do.But instead they only think about themselves.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this or know of similar examples of leaders doing the wrong thing instead of the right
thing?

Cardinal Law should be behind bars along with the rest of these priests who have abused children.....if I lived in Boston and was Chatholic I would be at his parish or church and would be screaming my head off at him in anger.....just think what Jesus would do if he found out this was going on in His church.....He got pissed off when they were using the church for a market.....
