They lost Haywood in the middle, Forte outside. 2 big players from last year's team. This is Coach's 2nd year, so he did not recruit these players (except the frosh). Give them time to gel. They will lose some games early, and come together as the season goes on. This UNC team is not quite as bad as the 0-3 record shows. They will get better.

djchad....They actually are as bad as the 0-3 record shows. I've seen all 3 of them. However, they will get better.

I think the comment that Doherty has "ruined" the program is a bit too much though. djchad is right when he talks about the MAJOR losses from last years team. Doherty wouldn't have recruited this team this way. He has a different style of coaching that these kids don't gel perfectly with. Give him time. Remember....Deam Smith got hung in effigy once....at least true Tarheel fans know that.

Not to beat a dead horse, but no point guard with experience and lack of a scorer (go-to guy) will hurt this team for the entire year. Joseph Forte bailed us out of way too many games last year.

Doherty is a good coach who will only get better, and so will this team. But I fully expect Carolina to finish in the bottom tier of the ACC and go to the NIT.

I know it sounds ludicrous to even mention next year already, but Carolina has Letters of Intention from possibly the two best guards in high school this year...Raymond Felton and Rashad McCants. Doherty's teams rely heavily on guards, as does the present state of the college basketball game. So the future is bright, the sky is not falling, so I tell myself. Give us a year or two and the Heels will be at the top again. In the meantime, Rat Face and the Dookies will prevail and have their time in the sunshine. I think I will find a part-time job so I won't have to watch this year. UGGGH!

Even last years team was a disapointment down the stretch. Anyone remember the last 2 Duke games..blowout city. Any how I dont care how young they are you still shouldnt be losing at home to Hampton and Davidson.

it will be an injustice if doherty takes the heat for the state of this year's tarheel team. in reality the blame rest with gutheridge and dean smith, but both are demigods to the fickle tarheel fans. carolina's recruiting strategy over the last couple of years before doherty was questionable at best. i remember that they had omar cook targeted as the next phil ford at point but then at the last minute realized what an immature little sh*thead he really was. by then it was too late in the recruiting season and the best they could come up with was adam boone, obviously not top shelf. carolina has always had a inclination not to recruit over top talent so when forte left early they were left in the lurch. now carolina finds themselves with no top calibre talent at guards and no reliable scorers in the frontcourt. btw, chis lang must have read my reference to him last night as a stiff as he shows me up with his career best game. not to worry, he will disappear regularly in the games to come.
