Manhattan is the clear-cut team to beat in the MAAC. Flores might be one of the best guards on the East Coast. Poured in 44 points on just 18 shots (16-of-18 from the foul line). Coach Gonzalez said "he's never been around a more efficient player." I like Manhattan's rotations.....and their inside game, while not big in stature, they can certainly play big.
Fairfield is a good team with a strong frontcourt, but I think Coach O'Toole is slow to make adjustments. What I don't like about the Stags is their small guards. In college hoops, you need guards who are a threat to score as well...not just handle the ball and feed the post. I also think the Sudan 7-footer shoots too many threes.
I knew the UNDER was shot in the first 90 seconds of the game. Both teams showed very little defensive intensity in the first half. Official Tom Lopes had more "touch" fouls then I've ever seen called in a game. In fact, both coaches received technical fouls at different spots in the game, complaining to the refs that they should "swallow their whistles and let the kids play." Both teams in the bonus early...51-51 at the half. Bad call on my part to say the least.
Looking to make a play on Manhattan next week at the Meadowlands vs. Seton Hall. If the Hall is laying more than 3 points, the Jaspers might be a good play.
