What is the point of NASA?

I don't get it. I can understand the arms race to get to space before the USSR in the cold war. I can see the billions spent when our country really thought that we might need, or be able to actually use a space station.

But I have a hard time thinking of a bigger waste of tax money than NASA. Guess what? We 'aint gonna live on the fuking moon, and we aren't going to inhabit Mars anytime soon. Wouldn't that money be better spent on alternative fuel sources or something that is more pertinent to our every day lives???

There is a big article on CNN about some lab that cost 2 billion that we just helped launch to space. Who the fuk cares what is the damn point?

I've always wondered this as well and have never heard anywhere near a cogent explanation.

There have been pics from two trips where I was actually sleeping, and i've rightfully been ridiculed. :shrug:

Whatever. I can obviously take it.

Jack and I got back from a great 5 day SB trip to Panama this past monday, went straight down to meet our friend dunclock from the airport when we got back, who happened to be here in Fort Myers on business.

Had a great time, even though Jack and I were totally beat from the trip.

If you *really* think I give a shit about the sleeping pics(most of which i've approved of before being posted, and the others I had no problem with), you might just think about getting some new material.

Or maybe simply showing up at something.

Not only I, but the other 18,600 out of the 18,643 member here would like to know why you think your so important?

Outside of your 7,499 post, + what ever # of cookouts or golf outtings + # of Vegas trips with your (imaginary) partner. For some reason you feel the need to shit on people that visit this site as you see fit.

Maybe thats your ( and a few others) place here, so be it.

I have no problem with it, I'll just speak my peace, as do you.......

Interesting topic. I'll give my two cents for defending NASA.

2 reasons that come immediately to mind are military satellites and China. We'll always need the use to military satellites, especially as the old ones start falling back to earth. Along the same lines, China is entering the space game and also has a pretty damn good anti-sat program going. They have already shown the ability to knock a few of our satellites out with laser technology.

I havent thought much about planetary exploration and whether I really think the money is well spent. Maybe NASA's budget should be decreased some, but not sure by how much. Once you take money out of a program, isnt it tough to get it back?? I really dont know. If China keeps progressing the way they have, NASA will get really busy in the next 20 years.

That bodes well for us DoD employees and all the Defense contractors in the area.
