My wife and I are going to San Francisco for a few days next week. Any suggestions on things to do or places to see? We are staying downtown.

Thanks! :toast:

Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 9, Coit Tower (preferably at night), Japan Town, not sure if they offer tours of Pac Bell Park during the offseason..might check that out, Ghirardelli Square..make sure to go to the ice cream shoppe and order a sundae, Mel's Diner..get the cheeseburger, fries, and chocolate shake..can't beat it, Golden Gate Park...tons of things to do and see there, I'm leaving plenty out, you'll definitely have a great trip.

Definitely Golden Gate Park...planetarium and aquarium, Chinatown via the cable cars, Coit Tower, numerous stores in the Market St. area and Crustaceans if you like crab.

Yep, Fisherman's Wharf is a great place. You can walk around and drink beer, as long as you keep it in the brown paper bag they give you. Lots of little shops and things to see. Be sure to drive across the golden Gate bridge so you can say you did it. The cable cars are crowded but fun.

If you can, use BART to get around. BART is kinda confusing the first time you try to get somewhere but most people will help you out. Parking in the city is horrible.

It is impossible to go to SF and NOT HAVE FUN, so have fun.

Somewhere in Corn Country
Just got back this afternoon from the Bay Area-- Marin County, to be exact. Are you a wine drinker? If so, make sure you get to Napa County and check out some of the wineries and the restaurants. The French Laundry is one of the finest eateries in the country.
In San Francisco, don't miss the Mission District and the Castro.......;) Sorry, couldn't resist.....

Are you familiar with the Beats? Haight-Ashbury is a must. City Lights Bookstore is worth a visit-- damn, I miss it already and I've been home for 3 hours......:(
totally agree with taking the BART if you plan on moving around the city much. Other than the occasional crackhead begging for change, its safe, quick and gets you were you want to go quickly. The cablecars are a must-- just to say you've riden one.
The Embarcadero is fun as well, Golden Gate Park..... enjoy yourselves!

If you are going to be there for a few days you could always blaze down to San Jose and catch a sharks game, if the wife will go for it:rolleyes:. Also you could just rent a car, cross the Golden Gate bridge and take a cruise up the coast, then once you hit Bodega bay head towards Santa Rosa and hit Sonoma (great place for wine tasting, so is the Napa Valley) then blaze back to the city on I-80 accross the bay bridge, just one big loop and you will not see the same thing twice until you get back into the city, IMHO that is a great way to soak up the bay area.
