Perish the thought....but what IF gambling never existed, what would the world be like?? Would it be the same? If not, then what would life itself in this world be like?? Any thoughts??

On the course!
Gambling is inherent in all beings. You gamble when you start a new job. You gamble when you move. You gamble when you get in your car, and head out on the road.

Plus, we all want something for nothing, and to have our egos stroked.

yyz hit it right on, if there are humans alive there will always be gambling in some form or another and thank goodness for that.

The fact that humans have so many different opinions on everything is also a reason gambling is so popular, have to put your money where your mouth is sometimes to prove a point.

When I asked this question....you guys got tooooo deep on me...i didn't mean Gambling in the Universal sense, I meant Gambling in the sports sense....like we are doing on this board....gambling on games, baseball, football, boxing etc etc. I didn't mean gambling in life, i meant gambling money on sports or a game of pool with your friends....etc etc...like that.

Professional World sports would not exist to the extent they do now.

Gambling propelled the NFL to its popularity. I'm sure its had the same effect on World Soccer. Gambling is a big part of the popularity of the NCAA Hoops Tournament -- without it would be nowhere near the ratings and attendance it draws.

With the decreased "fan" support, most leagues wouldn't be able to operate anywhere near now and the respective sports wouldn't have the same talent. Some sports with the combination of less money and talent would fade or disappear.

While the various leagues abhor gambling on their events, they are blind to a hand that is feeding them.

I'm sure its had the same effect on World Soccer.

Don't doubt your thoughts on the effects of gambling on US sports TomOCo, but would have to question the above statement.

Certainly a number of Asian syndicates spend big, big amounts of cash on football (soccer) matches. But I would say the popularity of the game hasn't been bolstered much by gambling.

It's simply the world game; football fanatics exist in their millions in almost every country in the world because it's "the beautiful game".

Pay TV and the globalisation of soccer coverage on the box has had a monster effect on the economics of the game.

I'll have to take your word for it Anders, I probably should have stated that as "I guess" in terms of World Soccer, as I'm really only familar with U.S. sports. My initial thought on it was that there has long been legal betting in the U.K. and they have been fanatical about their soccer teams.
