Report from CT on the Uconn Huskies!

They may need a few games to integrate the newcomers but they are damn sure not rebuilding after losing Caron Butler and Johnnie Selvie!

They are loaded, once again and overlooked a little once again.

1. Guard...Taliek Brown....NY game...fast paced, sometimes out of control,
last year was much improved over freshman year. Calhouns man...will get the job done.......penetrates well but need not try to do too much alone. Grade B

2.Guard..... Tony Robertson..Senior leadership...is ready, in top form, confident and ready to step it up a notch. Good shot...quick first step, loads of experience, slasher, versatile and is ready to prove something after Coach named Ben Gordon tentative starter. Grade A-

3.Guard... Ben Gordon ....loaded with talent...Calhoun says hes got noone to stop him.....good shot , range, was terrific off the bench last year and may fill the instant scoring off the bench again this year....but he'll get his PT....too good! Grade A-

4. center/forward.... Emeka Okafor....CT best player....SMART..Alters the oppositions shots with catlike quickness.......will score more this year and will benefit from freshman campaign experience....has more help this year. Grade A

5.center/ forward... 6' 10" lanky thin but ready to mix..Hilton Armstrong...young and just beginning to take it seriously. Calhoun is smiling ...this kid is going to contribute..good shot and good moves in the paint. Grade deferred (freshman)

6. center...Justin Brown...Will run with the best of them. in shape ,improved Big man, good moves to the hoop. bad hands
better again this year and will give good minutes. Grade C+

7. Mike Hayes...6' 8" 235....Selvie like , good hands will compete and get good minutes. Grade B

8. Guard ...Chad Wise... Mr Hustle, 6' 5" won dunking contest, deserves PT ...tough lineup to crack. Grade B...would like to see more

9. forward.... Scott Hazleton..injury plagued McDonalds AA can't get PT....maybe not this year either??? gotta bring it! grade deferred (have not seen enough)

10. forward...Shamon Tooles........role player, capable of providing good minutes Grade C+

11. G/F... Denham Brown........FRESHMAN GOT GAME! scored 111 in a game in Canada last year...well, hes a shooter and a scorer.
watch out if he gets comfortable. grade deferred (freshman)

12. center...Marcus White -(from DePaul) heard good things but will know more after exhibition this week grade deferred..???

13.Rashaad Anderson.....highly touted freshman will have to show well to crack this lineup...but hes there and he can play!

Look for waves... this team will run and shoot many more 3s this year........lotta speed and a lotta shooters.....We'll see...could be in the thick of it again!

Thanks for the report bear! Very nice.

Thought I'd try and contribute on a couple of teams.

Kansas opens up there exhibition season tonight agaist EA Sports in Lawrence, Kansas.

As bear mentioned, I think the Huskies are getting overlooked. Quite the opposite with the Kansas Jayhawks. There #2 ranking is based on past reputation and the big three that will walk out on the floor tonight.

One of the three will never walk on the floor with sneakers strapped on. Of course, we are talking about Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison. The other in this trio is HC Roy Williams.

Kansas has a solid starting line up, completed by Keith Langford, Wayne Simien, and Aaron Miles. Three guards and two forwards, same type of lineup that went to the Final Four last year.

That lineup is missing Dwight Gooden, who jumped to the NBA. That creates a real depth problem this year. The newbies, Bryant Nash, Jeff Hawkins, Jeff Graves, & Moulaye Niang are unproven.

HC Williams always seems to recruit well, but these newbies know nothing about primetime. The Jayhaks have always liked to run and gun, and play man to man defense.

Roy has already conceded they will play more zone this year, with the lack of depth and trying to protect against foul trouble.

In "real" games early, I'm looking to play some unders and against Kansas.

Wichita State Shockers:

Shockers were the youngest team in the Missouri Valley last year. They are probably still in that position, even though they are sophomores and juniors now.

They shocked (pun intended) the conference prognosticaters, finishing in the middle of the pack, after being voted to stay in the bottom of the barrel last year.

I'm looking to pounce on the Shockers early before the line catches up. But remember, the Shockers are playing in the Kansas Coliseum, off campus this year. The new Koch Arena is being remodeled. Formally Levitt Arena. Money talks, as we all know.

Creighton and Southern Illinois are the cream of the crop in the Valley this year, no doubt. Just don't over look the Shockers in certain spots this year.

Ok, enough rambling and misspelled words.

gl to everyone this season!

more Kansas rambling ....

more Kansas rambling ....

Tonight was just an exhibition vs EA Sports, but looks like the same run and gun Kansas team from a year ago. However you do make a good point KC Wolf that the KU bench is unproven and over/under totals may be a bit high to start the year. But with Heinrich & Miles pushing the ball they will still have their share of 100 point games this season. Tough Big 12 conference schedule should prepare Kansas for March Madness this year and maybe Roy Williams will get his NCAA title. Game of the college season could be Arizona versus Kansas in January. I will be there for that one!! Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!! Bring on college hoops!

Once again my Aggies will be the floor mat of the Big 12. But damn I'm excited. College Hoops is the greatest. Where else can you bet on Siena versus Marist.

Can't wait for college baskeball to start either it is the best. Hope MU has another good season. It was a suprise to me to see them make a good run in the tourny last year. Will have to see what this year will be like with some new young players. I think the big 12 will be a good conference again.
