Couple of buddies of mine are looking to get a room or two for the all star game weekend

I have never been the one in charge of the reservations so.....

I was wondering if you guys use a site or a travel agent or call the hotel yourselves to book rooms when you guys go to vegas

Any info or links would be appreciated

look at www.biddingfortravel.com and go to Nevada, Las Vegas, and read what people have bid on. Look at hoytels list at top of thread. This is a great way to get hotels anywhere, just no guarantee which you will get on priceline.com, but you will get 4-star, 3-star, etc. depending what you bid. Usually 1/3 rd to 1/2 the price. Good luck

I use bidding for travel also. I use it whenever we are traveling and need a cheap place to stay overnight. I have not used it for Vegas, because I am particular at where we stay.

I would suggest looking at many sites and getting an average price for a particular hotel. Once you find the hotel you want and the price you want, I would call the hotel and ask for the rates. A lot of times you can get the same rate, or better, directly from the hotel. Plus, If you book with the hotel you pay when you leave, so you could be able to get some of the room comped.

I found booking each part seperate (hotel, car, air) I was able to get a better deal than a package.

i'm going to vegas foir the first time for the super bowl festivites and staying at sahara, for same reason as you, cheap, lol..it's a bit out of the way i think, but I could care less as i wont be there much, i'll give you my thoughts on the probably 12 hours all weekend i spend there sleeping, pretty affordable and nicer than the real dives ie el cortez etc in downtown, so its probably a good choice
