As a 15 year vet in High Schools I will tell you that the one thing needed over everything else is more male figures in the schools. Though this is an extreme case and one that is the exception rather than the norm, there is no denying that as a whole the youth of America today have far less regard for authority(especially Women) than years past. This should come as no surprise given the total lack of expectations this country places on family values and actually being a responsible parent. The lawmakers don't give a shit, they send their kids to private school anyway.

what i see on a daily basis is a whole generation that thinks somebody else should be responsible for fixing on their screwups. they think their parents (or grandparents in many cases) should come into my office, pay the lawyer, and then the lawyer should make it all go away. personal responsibility has become an antiquated concept, and the sad thing is, its my generation that made that happen by believing they were supposed to take care of everything for their children.

Overwhelming majority of kids are fine. Will probably grow up to be better than us. Y'all are just grumpy old folks. :0003

agree to disagree. just cause they a teacher doesn't mean they know. they are still clouded by generational bias.

Overwhelming majority of 75% is ok as a stand alone. When you compare that to an overwhelming majority of 80, 85, 90, etc from years past, it becomes a different story. There is no doubt that most of our students enter the world with the tools (mentally and intellectually) to be successfully. The number of those ill prepared to be a productive citizen however continues to grow by the year. As previously stated it isnt really their fault. We as a nation have decided to take the path of everyone can be saved and everyone is going to college to be a "huge success" We have become a "pass em" cause it helps our graduation rates society that values checking a box over putting out a product that has met all the criteria. We have created laws that enable kids that are "labeled" and have essentially taken away the right to fail those kids or kick them out of school. We have policies allowing students to make up work, tests, and projects regardless of the reason it was not done the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture. If you think that 30+ years of laws and rules designed to take responsibility off of parents and students has/is not having a major impact on a growing percentage of errrrrrrrr "graduates" then yeah, we will agree to totally disagree.

Back in the 90's I was told to watch 3 days of AMC and then a half hour of MTV and I'd know what was wrong with AMERICA......Probably still holds true today.

I know I sound like my parents but here goes. We been telling our kids that they are special. They have grown up thinking that the world owes them something. In general, they have been given everything and mommy and daddy come to the rescue if something (and it always does) goes wrong. Nobody's special. To your parents and loved ones you are special but to the rest of the world you are not. This entitled, narcissistic society we live in is, in my humble opinion, in big trouble.

Cheers,
Eddie
