[Abstract: If you are not 'capping your own games then you are wasting your time, and likely money, IMO]

...I was pretty heavy into the sports select lottery B.S. and was just (late) getting into the internet. I found MJ's looking for some gambling sites to get some tips. Before and after opening my first off-shore in January 2001, I came here for tips on sports I knew little about (e.g. basketball and all NCAA's).

I tried to figure out who was good to follow on what, but eventually came to figure that everyone gets on streaks and I was going to have to figure this shit out myself, to both have a chance and to avoid aggravation.

I still find it very useful to share information. There are lots of sports sites that provide such but few take the gambling angle and we all (should) know how obtuse some of the so-called "experts" are at most of these regular sports sites. When I check out others betting posts I always appreciate it when there is some kind of rationale posted for the plays selected, though I understand that this can take up a lot of time which we often don't have. Nolan Dalla was here when I first came and he had some good breakdowns, e.g.

I don't think that there is anybody here that I would follow blindly, save for some smallish bets on fletcher's college baseball plays. Maybe others rock but I either don't know who on what or have forgotten. My guess is that newcomers will be more inclined to solve that riddle than most.

I come less for the information, now, than for the pseudo-socializing with others that also tackle the sports betting. I have friends who are sports fans but the bettors I know have fallen out of touch.

I guess my point (like there is one:rolleyes: ) is the same old think for yourself B.S. People cheering or criticizing others for winning or losing is sometimes--not always--a sign that said poster is not doing so. It will continue endlessly, no doubt.
WTF...sometimes amusing.
Obviously (sometimes), we are responsible for whatever decisions we make. I do find myself getting more aggravated if a slight lean becomes a (losing) play due to post as opposed to a loss I conceive on my own.

or, better yet:

I guess I don't want to participate in the controversial threads but had some related thoughts that almost led me into temptation.

think for yourself
'cap your own games

last word (promise):
'capping doesn't always have to be number-crunching...not what I mean.
If you are following a sport, and know it well enough, then 'capping can sometimes be just good old common sense.

The numbers sure don't hurt, mind you.
