It's an NFC South battle as the Atlanta Falcons host the New Orleans Saints in Thursday Night Football. We talk to Michael Stewart, an oddsmaker with XXXX about the action coming in on this primetime matchup and where the odds could end up come kickoff Thursday night.

New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons - Open: +8, Move: +10

This week's Thursday night game is all about two teams on opposite ends of the spectrum. The rivals opened the season against one another with the Saints winning 23-17 at home and covering as 3.5-point faves.

Depending on the wagering outlet, the Saints opened anywhere from -7 to -9.5 and action had come flooding in on the road fave.

According to Stewart, even saying "flooding in" is a bit of an understatement.

"Literally every single bet wrote at 8 was on the Saints and we quickly went to 8.5, which really didn't stop the bleeding so early Monday morning we went to Saints -9," Stewart told
xxxxxxx "At that price we started to see a bit of Falcons money but certainly not enough to overcome our liability on the Saints."

Sharps have come in to take the points at the current number, but according to Stewart, 70 percent of the action coming in is on the Saints.

"There's no way we'll go to 10.5 in this game as we'd really open ourselves up to being middled," Stewart says. "I'm sure our sharper bettors are waiting for that but it's not going to happen."

Stewart and his book opened the total at 53.5, which has produced solid two-way action.

"We literally can't lose money on the total at this point," Stewart said. "We've written a ton of Saints to over parlays, so if that's the result tonight then we're going to get crushed. But as it stands this morning, we're going to be rooting hard for the Falcons to stay within a TD of the Saints tonight."

Atlanta won't give up in spite of its struggles, "You're starting to hear vocal support for Coach Smith from both management and key players, which means the Falcons haven't quit on him despite this nightmare season. Seeing that materialize on the field would help, too, especially on the heels of losing to Tampa. Atlanta would get up for playing New Orleans in two-hand touch at a company picnic, so if nothing else, you'll see a strong effort. The Saints can't afford to just show up, especially since they must overcome missing pieces on defense against a capable Ryan. This might wind up a blowout, but going in expecting the Falcons to just roll over against their primary NFC South rival would be a mistake."

From a totals perspective, the Saints have hit the 'over' in five of the last seven games, while Atlanta has eclipsed the 'over' in four of five home contests. The Falcons are involved in their second game with a total higher than 50 this season, as the opener at New Orleans went 'under' the total of 54 ?. The Saints are 2-2 to the 'over' in totals above 50, while scoring at least 26 points three times in this total range.

As disappointing as the offense has been, it's really the Atlanta defense that is mostly to blame for this lost season. The Falcons have allowed the fourth-most points (29.2 PPG) and fourth-most yards per play (6.1) in the NFL, ranking 30th against the run (132.7 YPG) and 22nd against the pass (249.2 YPG). They have the 2nd-worst defense on third downs (46% conversions) and have also been gashed in the red zone (64% efficiency, 28th in NFL). Forcing mistakes has also been a weak spot for this team, as Atlanta has amassed a mere four takeaways in the past seven games combined.

Saints own the dudes in Atl over the last several years so I am told today..

one would think if Atl had anything left it would show up tonight..

Bad part is their Defense is sadder than McKinley's funeral

28-17 comes to mind if Falcons can't put anything solid together..

teaser dream at less than 3 w/Brees almighty always lookin' to score..

still...:00x33

ATL defense has been god awful this year, giving up 27 or more in 7 of last 8 games. Thats what scares me about tonight, even though the public is slamming NO, the ATL def has to step up. Either way, GL tonight!

I think yu have to live in Atlanta to feel the beat of the Fans.

Plenty of people here on talk radio want Smith out and they even say the same about Dimitroff.

TD is responsible for some big busts on the offensive line and poor free agents , OSI, and Stephen RB pick up.

The Falcons have shuffled the lines on both sides of the ball and this should be a haphazard bunch of misfits we see tonight.

After all the Falcons just lost to the fucking Tampa Bay team.

holy chit they suck

Bring in Brees with his 2nd overall offense in the NFL and lets see what we get.

Saints will march down the field over and over. No way the Falcons can keep up.

Falcons will have more field goals than touchdowns as usual.

How did you win 400 when you risked 100 on an action reverse? To win 400 on a reverse you would have needed to risk 200.
