Wow,
I was trying not to respond to any of these posts, as I am just too pissed to respond appropriately... but this message..... I thought Bush made as strong of a statement as he could in this situation in saying that "those countries that harbor these individuals will be dealt with as if they were responsible themselves" (I realize that was a paraphrase).....I have EVERY confidence that we as a country will take STRONG, SWIFT, DECISIVE action to respond to this situation!

It's gonna be like the stem cell research decision, Bush will go the middle route to appease as much people as he can. He will only send half the amount of bombs and half the amount of retaliation against the terrorists.

I agree that the speach could have been a little stronger. And wipe that sneaky grin off your face for once!

Let's hope that the actions Pres. Bush takes will be much stronger than the words he used and the way he said what he said.

Not saying what he said wasn't wrong- just a little too diplomatic. We needed a stronger message from the man in charge.

I, for one, agree. It was not as much the message, as the way he delivered it. I sensed little of the anger that i anticipated from him. I expected a more emotional address, one that laid it out in no uncertain terms, that we will stand up to this type of attack.

I place some of the blame on Clinton's administration for not taking a more forceful stand against Afganistan when it was apparent that they were not only harboring Baden, but helping to financially support his terrorist acts.

Talk is cheap. It is time for action and I believe that it has to be swift and uncompromising. No scattered missle attacks but a ground force of overwheming strength that leaves little doubt as to our resolve to punish those whose governments fincially support, train, harbor and encourage these attacks.

I believe in peace through negoitation in most instances but we can not stand for these type of attacks on American soil.

I am reminded of the words of benjamin franklin back during the revolutionaty war, "Those who are willing to give up their freedom for a little bit of security, deserve neither freedom nor security."

This may be the defining moment of this generation. Do we stand up and make the difficult decisions for the benefit of the world our children will inherit or do we sit back and allow this nation to be bullied by those who hide behind this type of cowardly act and those countries who encourage it.

Bush needs to calm everyone down right now. Gas prices are going through the roof, and panic could set in. Telling everyone we are gonna kick some ass, which we are gonna do, would just rile everyone up and gas prices woudl shoot through the roof and the like.

Like he said, priority number one is to rescue right now and protect further. Bin Ladin will never again sleep well. I thought what Bush said was perfect. We need a leader like that right now

Bush, nor anyone else, is telling anything out of the ordinary about what has happened. You can be guaranteed that the public doesn't know 25% of the information that is available. Bush can't say anything more than what he has said - and why warn those who we will seek for this act anyway? The state of his presidency prior to this event wasn't real hot, like any politician, he will seize the moment and make himself out a hero to the American public. Hell will be paid - you can be sure. It will guarantee a huge rise in his approval rating.

Unknown,

I think that it's only fair to give him a chance. I mean, what would you expect him to do? We don't even know who is responsible for this.

Sure, Bin Laden is the frontrunner, but wasn't he also the frontrunner for OK City? I think that once we establish who did this (and it very well could be Bin Laden), then we can judge people for what they do and what they don't do.

It will be incredibly important for us as a country to react strongly and accurately, but I don't think that it's fair to criticze Bush at this early juncture.

This whole thing is terribly horrible and defies words, and in the end, the best that we may be able to hope for is that it is not repeated due to increased diligence. Revenge would be sweet, but I have my doubts, and those doubts have little to do with Bush specifically. My doubts are more along the lines of the 'shooting at shadows' aspect.

Frankly, I am hoping that it is Iraq, Arafat or Iran because I really have my doubts that we can bring Bin Laden to justice of any sort.

But God, whoever it is proven to be, I pray that we get revenge.

I refuse to be held hostage over gas prices. This is not a question of money, but a struggle against evil.

If Bush wanted to help us all. He could have told his buddies to cut the crap with the gas prices. This gas is here and in the ground. But here we go 2/3 bucks up in 10 hours. Just shows he has no clue. But then again he is in bed with these boys. He could have warn them all in his brillant speach.
Don't screw us with your gas prices before you even know if you have to. Mayor of NY had enough brains to warn anyone screwing anyone for anything will be delt with.

UC,

The right people are driving the bus in this country now. Due to the total emasculation of our intelligence services by the previous admin. the door was left open a crack for something like this to get through. There will be no half-hearted attempts to find those to blame, no bombing of asprin factories, or giving away all of our advantages to the rest of the world to satisfy some unrealistic socialist liberal fantasy that if we make everyone equal to us in capability, that we'll all be friends.

I hope people wake up to the fact that there are children being brainwashed to hate from the time of birth, and will give their lives to see us dead because it's all they know, and there's is no getting along with them, or I should say, their ideology. I lived in the Middle East for about six years, I've seen the way these people think first hand. Long on religious rhetoric, short on realism.

The last decisive response was when Reagan put two bombs in Khadaffi's front yard and we haven't heard from him since, and that's the kind of response we will see this time! I think the Taliban in Afghanistan is suffering from acute anal puckering about now, and President Bush has got the cure for what ails them.

WE MUST UNITE AS ONE. IT IS NO LONGER ABOUT PARTY AFFILIATION. WE MUST FIND WHO DID IT AND PUNISH THEM. I AM FEELING SO MUCH ANGER BUT IT NEEDS TO BE CONTOLLED ANGER. I BELIEVE IN THE END JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL. WE WILL BECOME A STONGER COUNTRY BECAUSE OF IT. WE HERE AT MJ'S NEED TO STICK TOGETHER. IT WAS AN ATTACK ON EACH ONE OF US. I'LL LEAVE YOU WITH THIS.

I think that he needs to be given a chance. My guess is that they will determine who is responsible and take appropriate action. It's probably too early to do so yet.
