My opinion is adults only will see Da Vinci.

Pirates will get the younger crowd(12 years and up) and the adults.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit that Pirates beats out Da Vinci. Depp was a genius in the 1st Pirates and people will remember that and will come out for part 2 without hesitation.

I wouldn't be betting a "dime" on it though. :SIB

Pirates will be opening Fourth of July weekend, and I'm not sure what it will be against. That alone gives it an advantage over Da Vinci Code. Factor in MI3 being only in it's second weekend, I would think the chalk would be the winner here (not that I would play it... just saying).

pinnacle only uses domestic totals.

not worldwide totals.

da vinci did 77 in the us this weekend.

i wouldn't be surprised to see pirates beat that. won't see my money though.

i know i'm in the minority. in fact i'm sure of it, but i thought pirates was one of the worst movies i've ever seen, but i don't like that kind of stuff.

gl on whichever side you were on though.

Pirates will still definitely beat it. Gets a larger audience. Maybe some of you don't think so, but I can see Pirates raking in a lot more than Davinci code.

I could be wrong but my work has a tie in with the next Superman Movie coming out and that just may be the target date.

Warner Bros. has set a release date for their new Superman movie. According to Variety, the Man of Steel will swoop back on to the silver screen June 30, 2006.

This was the date earmarked by 20th Century Fox for the release of X-Men 3, which has yet to hire a director, finalize a script or negotiate deals with certain members of the cast. Superman's taking of June 30th is the latest apparent smack at its comic book movie rival. The bad blood reportedly stems from director Bryan Singer's decision to ankle X-Men 3 for Superman.

The only other big releases slated to debut around June 30th are Charlotte's Web (June 23) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (July 7).

As Variety points out, June 30th begins "next year's Independence Day frame. With July 4 falling on a Tuesday, the holiday frame runs five days."

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't X Men 3 opening in theaters on May 25. At least that's what their website says.

no, you are right. the point also in that article was that superman picked the date of june 30th and locked it in knowing that x-men also wanted that date.

i'm not privy to what exactly goes on, but if superman beat xmen to the bullet and locked in that date, it would be stupid for x men to take that date as well because most people don't see two movies in a weekend, and the first week of a movies release is basically everything, hence their move to what apparently is a worse weekend of may 26th.
