Can the make it to the final 4?
I don't think they can, sorry-weak schedule just catches up with you.
Do they make it to the Elite 8 or does someone upset them before then??

I am with you on State, if they learned anything at all during that UGA game (mainly that when you've got everyone under the basket with 4 fouls, drive the fvcking ball, dont throw up garbage 3s) then they may be able to do it.
They've got the athletes in Gordon, Varnado and Rhodes to compete at least.

Anyone think Pitt can make it there and do it?

I think Memphis gets very little respect for a # 1 seed. Certainly they cannot help the conference they are in. They are an EXTREMELY talented and well-coached team that, in my opinion, can play with anyone.

Since the start of the 2006-2007 college basketball season, they have lost a grand total of TWO games (last year's Final Four and to Tenny on the road this year). That is something like 55-2.

That's good enough for me.

I think they lost in the Elite 8, but your point is well taken.

I remember them losing because that idiot Joey Dorsey said before the Elite 8 game that he had something for Greg Odom.

The same Joey Dorsey that ran his mouth before and after the Tennessee game before putting up 0 points and 3 boards:142smilie

They lost 3 games during the 06/07 regular season.

You must be talking about the Joey Dorsey that shoots below 40% from the free-throw line.

Memphis is without any doubt in possession of some great talent. however, I just don't know if they can put it together for a run completely through the tourney.

You don't really know what you're talking about, do you? If you had said "weak conference schedule," I might cut you slack, but Memphis' overall schedule is one of the toughest in the country....

Those who write off Memphis' soft conference schedule obviously haven't explored the slate the Tigers played outside their league. In addition to losing to Tennessee, they beat Oklahoma, Connecticut and Southern California at neutral sites and Austin Peay, Georgetown, Arizona, Siena and Gonzaga at home.

If you're counting, that's 8-1 against nine NCAA tournament teams.

Also, they have the 3rd ranked RPI...

I think that my Tigers have the ability to run the table...but then again, I am slightly biased. :SIB

yeah, your right. i was speaking of conference schedule. they have done well playing outside the conference.
maybe my bias comes in becuase i hate memphis because i live with a guy who talks them up big and then crys like a bitch when they lose.
they may run the whole damn thing, but i still think playing in CUSA and garbage free throws may bite their assess.
i dont follow memphis much, so you were right in your estimation that i knew little about their out of conference, thanks for the information

still have them getting knocked out early though....

True. I am a UT fan, and he cried like a bitch this year and it pissed me off. It still makes me mad. Piss on it.

at some point in the run for the Championship they will hit a stretch where they have to nail clutch free throws..

they may hit them ..

but a season full of data tells us they throw up bricks..

LOVE THE DRAKE, BUT GO WITH MEMPHIS
By PETE GILLEN

March 18, 2008 ? Colorful CBS College Sports Network analyst Pete Gillen, who coached Xavier to the Sweet 16 in 1990 and Providence to the Elite 8 in 1997, breaks down the NCAA Tournament exclusively for The Post, as told to Steve Serby.

LAST year was tough - this year is even tougher. I think 16, 17 teams can win it. Every team has a flaw. I got a better chance of winning Project Runway than getting this right. But here goes.

I love Drake. Drake is my favorite team in the country. I think it's gonna beat UConn and get to the Sweet 16. [Walk-on point guard] Adam Emmenecker has more majors than he has 3-point baskets. He looks more like a florist than a basketball player. He's always in the lane penetrating - when I coached, a lot of my guys only got in the lane on media day to get in the team picture. These guys shoot deep 3's - missiles, like they're 4-point shots. Drake plays a good match-up zone; that's gonna cut down on [7-footer Hasheem] Thabeet a little bit.

I don't think Duke gets to the Sweet 16 either. I think the Blue Devils are getting a little tired and run down . . . I think West Virginia is gonna knock 'em off. Duke can't guard inside, and will have trouble with Joe Alexander.

I love the Irish, but I'm picking George Mason over Notre Dame in the 5-12 upset. The pressure's on Notre Dame; George Mason's playing with house money.

I'm taking USC over Kansas State because OJ Mayo has a better supporting cast than Michael Beasley and Tim Floyd is a spectacular coach. Beasley reminds me of a better version of Waymond Tisdale of Oklahoma. This game's gonna be Mayo's personal [NBA] resume - when he doesn't have it, he's gonna steal it from his teammates; he's a pathological shooter.

Pitt's physicality and toughness should be enough against Michigan State, which is a little overrated. I think the Panthers will guard [Drew] Nietzel pretty well.

My Sweet 16: Memphis-Pitt; Stanford-Texas; UCLA-Drake; Purdue-West Virginia; North Carolina-Washington State; Louisville-Tennessee; Kansas-Clemson and Georgetown-Wisconsin.

Louisville's 2-3 zone will slow down [Tyler] Hansbrough a little bit, and North Carolina's defense is its problem.

My Final Four: Memphis; UCLA; Georgetown; Louisville.

I think Louisville is gonna play a lot of 2-3 zone, and that'll hurt Georgetown's Princeton offense. It will slow down [Roy] Hibbert. [David] Padgett is healthy now . . . he's like a poor man's Hansbrough. Louisville's very streaky, but I think the Cardinals are gonna get hot from 3. Louisville goes to the championship game.

Where it'll play Memphis. I've changed my mind on UCLA winning it all. UCLA is not a great offensive team. I think the Bruins are slightly overrated. Memphis plays the best man-to-man D in the country because of its athleticism, speed, length and depth, and inside they got Joey Dorsey, who looks like the middle linebacker for the New York football Giants.

My NCAA champion: Memphis. I think the Tigers can put the clamps on Louisville. Chris Douglas-Roberts is like a young George Gervin. He's the Money Man - when the Tigers need a basket, he gets it almost every time. Derrick Rose is arguably the best freshman in the country. He's like a young Jason Kidd, with the body of a Greek god. If he were a stockbroker, you'd put your money in his hands.

I know that free-throw shooting has been Memphis' Achilles' heel; John Calipari will hypnotize the Tigers, he'll tell them something and they'll believe it. A high-scoring game, with the key being Memphis' suffocating defense. The Tigers come after you 94 feet for 40 minutes, with waves and waves of guys coming off the bench. You need a lifeguard to play against them.
