The Wizards have nothing left to gain in the standings in their final two games of the regular season. They are officially locked into the fourth spot in the East and now all they can do is wait to see both their first round opponent, and which team ends up with the top seed in the conference between the Cavs and Celtics.
Washington would like to get to 50 wins and in order to do that will have to win each of their last two games. That is something to watch. But there's also this: if the Wizards win one more game then they will become the only team in NBA history to win 49 games or more after beginning a season 2-8. The 1992-93 Celtics won 48 games after starting 2-8 and the Wizards currently sit 48-30.
Will anyone rest?
The Wizards have said they want to chase 50 wins, but one can imagine the priorities have changed now that they know their standing heading into the playoffs. That fact has rendered these last two games essentially meaningless for them. With that in mind, should they rest any of their key players?
Otto Porter, who missed Saturday's game with back spasms, would seem to be a good candidate for that. But it would not be surprising to see coach Scott Brooks give either John Wall or Bradley Beal a night off in one of these last two games. This could represent an opportunity for the Wizards to recharge their batteries before potentially going on a long playoff run.
