Which one of these players means the most to their team? If they went down, the team would be hurt immeasurably: (not in order of preference)

1. Bret Favre
2. Marshall Faulk
3. Rich Gannon
4. Fred Taylor
5. Kurt Warner
6. Ray Lewis
7. Brian Urlacher
8. Jeff Garcia
9. Donovan McNabb
10. Jerome Bettis

I would have to vote Favre first. Can't imagine GB being anything w/out him. With a healthy Taylor, J-ville would be a good team.
McNabb merits consideration but he has gotten some more help at the skill positions this year. Who is Gannon's backup? Bobby Hoying? What would they be w/Hoying? 7-9 maybe.

One thing I don't consider when looking at who should be the MVP (because my opinion effects the outcome so greatly

) is who is the backup. I think Marshall Faulk loses some credibility because Trung Candidate has done a very good job as well. Now the reason I don't think Faulk should get it is because of the rest of the supporting cast. Yes, Faulk does scare defenses enough where they have to play softer on the speed receivers, but those speedy receivers (plus Warner's accuracy) help Faulk out as well.

Now, what team would not be the same without him. The Oakland Raiders minus Rich Gannon would be sorry IMO. Now that the team has confidence, they would probably be okay, but not too many people expected the Raiders to be this good this year. (Sidenote: Kudos to Grudnen as Coach of the Year).

Just one person's opinion.

My vote goes to Jeff Garcia.

This is the only QB in the league that has not played a bad game yet this season (correct me if I'm wrong). I rarely if EVER see Garcia throw stupid passes, make dumb mistakes, and he always seems to be able to get rid the ball and not take drive killing sacks.

I have not been a fan of Garcia until recently. In fact, my perception of him has done a total 360.

The other three candidates are probably:

Rich Gannon -- Very good QB with all the tools, but helped by the fact he's surrounded by the most talented offense in the league (barring Rams). Agree that if Gannon goes down, the Raiders season is done.

Kurt Warner -- No question, one of the NFL's best. But he sure is throwing a lot of interceptions. His performance against Tampa was horrendous.

B. Favre -- The best career QB in the NFL right now (based on overall history of performance). But, he's not played well in quite a few games this season -- versus ATL, both TAMPA games, CHI, etc. Favre also has a bad habit of throwing too many Hail Mary. They worked against a bad pass defense last night, but against a better team, he's going to get burned doing that.

My next choice (a close second) for MVP would be J. Bettis. No explanation needed.

Other opinions?

A couple of outsiders might be Curtis Martin and Chris Chandler. With Chandler in, Atlanta is a decent team. When he's been out, they're horrible. And a third outsider: Ed McCafferey. Look at how Denver fell apart after he got hurt.

brady.

the case of bledsoe/brady is an intriguing one, and an interesting one for debate, probably for a technician. my simple view is that they changed their offense, perhaps to a bit more basic one, and got away from the "bledsoe" way, making their passing much more effective.
they seem to have some more "play-action" and also appear to be more diversified. add brady's confidence and abilities and you have a serious contender, although still a ways off to handle a st louis, or are they?

My vote goes to the NFL officiating crew. God knows they have won more games than all of the above. What a circus they have turned this game into.

I saw Jeff Garcia play his 1st ever action in the CFL as Doug Fluties backup, and he looked awesome. He has all the tools to win in this league, and because he played in the CFl which is a wider, longer field, he has learned the passing game. All your receivers can be in motion and defenses aren't set, and you have only 3 downs in CFl so he has an extra down in the NFL. Not to mention the games are back and forth high scoring affairs he made numerous comebacks in the last seconds of the game. IF i am behind with 1 minute in the game I want Garcia as my QB, cause he will find a way to score. He's the model of consistency in this league and a fierce competitor who HATES to LOSE.

I would have to say Ryan Leaf.

but seriously folks, after watching the game monday night, i would have to say Favre and the refs.

gannon and garcia are right there with mcnabb right behind.

faulk does lose some credit w/trung's success. not sold on warner this year though.

we will see how pitt does sunday with the bus in the shop.

Canidate is a step down from Faulk, IMO. He had two big games against Carolina & the Jets, 2 less than strong run defenses. 16 for 145 vs Caro and 23-195 vs the Jets. Remove those 2 games and he's 36 carries for 102 yards (2.8 ypc). He's a very good backup but lets not confuse him w/Marshall.
