Just wondering..... wife and I are undecided as to where we search for a couple of places to buy a small dwelling and travel in between. We like Colorado, Nevada, Utah or Arizona......Any thoughts from those that are retired? :0008

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Vegas

Vegas

is a good jump off point......would not spend all my time here, casinos get old.

Close proximity to Utahs wonders,250 miles from ocean, very cheap housing and utilities, low taxes.

One of my neighbors has a full time home here and timeshares all over the west.

Tahoe area, Northern Utah, Canadian Rockies, he's 65 into snow-shoeing, hiking, rock climbing, fishing, biking.

You can own a Vegas home in a guarded gated senior community for about 70k,
or rent lease a furnished one for about $900 a month.

We have been living in the Phoenix area for a little over 20 years & love it!!

Weather is beautiful 8-9 months out of the year....

The summer months are a killer to some but have we learned to live with it....

I rather deal with the heat than the snow....

By car we are 4.5 hours from Vegas & 5 hours from San Diego....

Since this area is surrounded by mountains, it is a great place for hiking....

Other outdoor activities are golf, boating, fishing, etc....

There are about 4 or 5 casinos in the valley...

Housing & rental prices greatly vary depending on what part of the valley you want to live in....

Let me know if you need any other info....

Jaco, Costa Rica
I retired to just outside Jaco, Costa Rica and love it.

This place has true freedom where most everything is legal and the police and government stay out of your way.

You can walk into a farmacia and buy almost any drug you need over the counter without any prescription needed.

If for some reason you need to see a doctor, just pay out of pocket as medical is about 20% of US cost. You don't need medical insurance.

We have four casinos within 3 miles of my house and 1 sportsbook.

Weather is in the 80s 9 months of the year and 90s for 3 months.

I live 3 minutes from the Pacific Ocean and we have nice beaches here.

The people are super friendly.

The banks pay interest up to 12% on CD's.

Real estate is moderately priced and the cost of living is slightly less than in the US.

This is a very environmentally friendly country that has 26% of the land as national parks, is the only country to ban hunting and is the only country, so far in 2015 to run all of its electricity from renewable energy.

There is no threat of terrorism here and this is one of only 7 countries without a military.

A lot of Americans and Canadians are retiring here.

Taxes are low and there is no tax on investment income.
