WAGERWEB.COM POSTS FOOTBALL BETTING ODDS ON: ?WHO WILL BE THE NEXT HEAD COACH OF THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS??
(Zapote, Costa Rica, 03 January 2006) It wasn?t the way Dick Vermeil had hoped to go out, missing the playoffs, but his team took him out with a huge win over Cincinnati, capping a coaching career that will go down as one of the greats. Vermeil?s Chiefs underachieved the whole time he was in KC, but also showed signs of brilliance, which is why Vermeil must be looked at as one of the most innovative and respected NFL head coaches of the past 25 years. Vermeil won a Super Bowl in St Louis and took Philadelphia to another. The magic just wasn?t there at the end of the day in Kansas City
Vermeil announced that he would be retiring after the season, and the wheels of who will be next in KC are already turning. If Vermeil had his way, current Chiefs assistant coach Al Saunders would take over, but that remains to be seen. Other names being thrown around are Jets coach Herman Edwards, if he opts out of the Big Apple, and recently fired Detroit Lions coach Steve Mariucci. The Chiefs main problems in recent years have had to do with defense, so 49'rs assistant coach Mike Singletary has been talked about as well.
"The Chiefs have had one of the best offenses in the NFL under Vermeil but one of the worst defenses," said Wagerweb.com (http://www.wagerweb.com) CEO Dave Johnson. "It would not be fair to blame it all on Coach Vermeil, but at age 69 it just was the right time for him to end a great coaching career. As far as his replacement in KC, we have taken a large amount of wagers on current New York Jets coach Herman Edwards who is listed as the favorite at Even Money (+$100). Singletary has also garnered a lot of attention at 12 to 1. I think his defensive background makes him and obvious choice for many bettors.?
