Just Curious?...

Ernie Harwell, Red Barber, and Harry Caray were among the top 5 but I think Mel Allen was the best. I loved This Week in Baseball when he was there.... Does anyone have the old Theme Music to the show?.....

Thanks in advance.....

Not the best announcer ever but, have you heard on "Mancow" the baseball announcer who has, well let's say, gay intentions? He comments on the players, their stances, anatomy, etc while the game is in progress. It's hilarious!

If anyone knows where to find that on tape or a web-site, it would be appreciated.

as far as current announcers, i think thom brenneman is far and away the best announcer in baseball right now. hard to describe why he is so good, but his voice just makes you interested in the drama that is unfolding. when he does playoff games, he is at his best. he does a great job of calling the action, but then also knowing when to shut up to either:

1) let his analyst talk and offer insight
2) let the fans and stadium noise/reaction do all the talking necessary.

too bad arizona sucks this year

Wow. I think Brenneman is horrendous. Guy makes every play out to be the most dramatic situation in baseball history. His voice is extremely annoying to boot.

hoops- thats interesting. incidentally, i think the indians tom hamilton is AWFUL and every one in cleveland thinks he is top notch. and i hate hamilton for the exact same reasons you hate brenneman (makes routine regular season plays sound like world series game 7). one more thing that i like about brenneman is that he is not afraid to criticize. interesting. perhaps im in the minority with brenneman though.

Who does Joe Tait announce for? never heard of him. I think In the NBA Mark Boyle of the Pacers is one of the best hands down. He will be in the hall of fame when his announcing career ends.

Bob Uecker.... end of discussion.

Am a big fan of Vin Scully and Harry Kalas as well, but Bob takes the cake IMO.

I have always found Vin Scullys voice to be very soothing...He is getting rather senile though...kinda like Chick Hearn his last few years

I agree with my man Rex...Vin Scully is the man. I also have heard Bob Uecker once and I liked it as well

I used to love Uke. He pours his heart into the game, and that passion is great when listening on the radio. I can remember for years, turning the sound off of the television and listening to Bob and Merle Harmon in the 70's.

I think he was at his best with current Cubs broadcaster Pat Hughes, from the mid 80's to 90's.

Unfortunately, Bob's best days are well behind him. You used to be able to "see the plays" through his calls, but now.......he makes far to many mistakes. He still tells good stories when the game is a little slow, and that is one of the truely endearing qualities about the old goat. I will miss him when he is gone, but he should have been gone a couple of years ago.

Joe Tait has been the voice of the Cleveland Cavs sice their inception except for one year when he was feuding with a previous owner and he did the Nets games that year. He paints a great picture of the game as it unfolds on the radio and is definitly not a complete homer like some of these guys!

The worst baseball announcer was Herb Score, he was a legend in Cleveland but the guy was absolutely confusing when you listened to him during the games. Herb would sometimes even open the telecast with welcoming the listeners to the game but he would forget what city the game was being played in and say the wrong city. He was also a butcher of the english language but the guy was rock solid when he reflected on baseball history plus he survived one of the worst come-backers to the mound in history when he played!
