Is 1-6 on the road vs. Ranked teams since he took over in 1998. However, look at the quality of teams he lost to:

1998:

@Texas A&M L28-21. Husker offense came on waaay too late vs. the wrecking crew under a young Bobby Newcombe. Their defense had a couple of lapses. Texas A&M went on to win the Big 12 title game that year in an upset of KSU.

NU was favored by 17

@ Kansas State L41-30. The game was much closer than the final score indicated as the Mildcats ran back a fumble for a score in the closing seconds and then tried to go for 2. The Huskers may have had a chance to pull it out as they were driving in the final minute when Eric Crouch nearly had his head taken off on a no-call facemask that would have kept the drive alive.

KSU was favored by 12

1999:

NU was favored by 14 @ Texas

The Huskers statistically dominated the Horns but turnovers absolutely killed them as they fumbled away TD's on two goalline plays. Huskers lost 24-20. That Texas team won the Big 12 South that season.

2000:

@Oklahoma: The Huskers lost 31-14 after dominating early. Oklahoma went on to become the National Champs.

NU was favored by 3

@Kansas State: IN a game that KSU pulled out in the very end during an ice storm 29-28. QB Jonathan Beasely led KSU on a long TD drive to close the game. KSU played OU close in the Big 12 title game and pulverized Tennessee in their bowl game.

NU was favored by 4.

2001

@Colorado: We all saw what happened that day. Colorado went on to win the Big 12 championship.

Nu was favored by 8.

In closing. Another guy stated that NU had plane problems and that is true. Have to wonder what that will do to their psyche as they won't arrive until late tonite. PSU does not allow the visiting team to do walkthroughs, so HC Frank Solich consulted with his Buddy Barry Alvarez about the field and atmosphere. How much that helps, I really don't know.

While Nebraska has been less than impressive this year, they do have 3 games under their belt while Penn State has one and they looked very shaky. I would rather have 3 games under my belt at this stage of the year going into a tough game, than a poorly played one with 2 weeks to prepare for an opponent.

A few things to remember about Penn State.

While they did have a good finish to last year, consider the teams they beat:

Northwestern 38-35
Ohio State 29-27 (not a good Buckeye team at all at the time)
S. Miss 38-20
Illinois L 28-33
Indiana 28-14 (the closest thing to an option team they saw)
Mich State 42-37
Virginia L 14-20

Penn State finished last in the Big 10 vs. the run and in forced turnovers in 12.

Keep in mind that Penn State had a bye after the Miami game last year . A bad Wisconsin team came in there and beat them 18-6 with 2 weeks to prepare while Wisconsin had 2 games under their belt.

The following week they lost at home to Iowa.

While QB Zack Mills has lead their resurgence in offense, Penn State has not seen one good defensive team with him at the helm.

While Nebraska may not have great stats on defense, they have some studs on their DLINE and at LB that can keep Mills running for his life. Don't mistake The PSU offense for Miami or Colorao. They are nowhere near as talented.

Nebraska also has a marked advantage on the special teams. And if PSU did not eat their wheaties, the Huskers will find a way to score 7-10 points with their special teams, whether it is through blocked kicks, or punt returns.

NU Punter Kyle Larson leads the nation in punting avg, which will force PSU into a long field all night.

The Huskers have not shown their whole arsenal in the early season games. Jammal Lord did pass the ball much better and they took their next superstar TE Matt Herian out of his redshirt. If PSU falls asleep on him, he will run wild and keep the Lions from throwing 9 and 10 men in the box. The Huskers will use a change of pace rushing attack with New #1 IB Cory Ross who is much quicker than incumbent Dahhran Diedrick while they can use Diedrick to hammer away in short yardage situations.

Can Penn State's defense improve that much in a year? Check out the Central Florida game. While the Knights did not rush well, they did pass for a lot of yards vs. the LIons. While NU is not as good passing the ball as CFLA, they are capable of putting out the balance.

Awa crappa. There a goesa my illegala immigranta accenta back intoa my vocabularia.

You sawa who Ia picked a. PSU is a tougha road venue, but it is by no meansa that dauntinga. Lesser teamsa have won there easily.
