Florida State Fans: By having Bobby Bowden continue coaching as his heyday slips farther and farther into the past, you avoid the identity crisis that STILL grips Bama fans. Bear went out a couple of years after back-to-back national championships, at the end of a decade that saw over 100 wins, and with a streak of not having been beaten by That Cow College since That Awful, Awful Day. When Bowden is ?called home?, because that?s what it will take to get him out of there, his legacy will be of the Shug Jordan-type ? distant memories of tainted glory in another era. It?s not THAT hard to replace that.
Notre Dame Fans: Charlie Weis is defined to be a great coach. All he has left to do before the Hall of Fame induction is recruit top-flight talent, coach them to their peak, and win games with them. Ty is long gone now, can?t blame that anymore. Isn?t Ara still alive? He must start cringing about Wednesday, by now. Keep your heads up, I?ve got a feeling that if the administration won?t do anything, there might be a Smiting in the works.
Georgia Fans: Auburn lost! Now you?ll have a little bit of an idea of what to do on both sides of the ball when they come a-callin? in November. As a bonus, UGA managed to avoid embarrassing the SEC (again) by beating up on those effeminate PACers in Arizona. Admit it, this past week you pumped your fist and nobbed your head during Buck Belue?s show (as you sat stranded in traffic on 400), but you confessed to your deer dog that you were nervous.
USC fans: You?re already number one, though you may move up to 1++ in the AP today. All you have to do is avoid losing 2 games and you?re a shoe-in to the championship game. I smell a 7-peat.
Ohio State Fans: Your championship dreams for this year are shattered for sure, but as long as you have Delany in your corner, there will never be a college football playoff system, ensuring all BIG-MAC teams of having a shot at winning it all. Wait ?til next year ? you?ll probably start the year number 1 or 2 (depending on where USC ends up), and all you have to do is avoid playing like Ohio State and the future could be yours.
SEC Fans: When it?s all over and the season is in the books, you KNOW in your heart that 4 or 5 SEC teams could beat both USC and Oklahoma. That will make it a million years in a row that the
SEC got screwed. It?s the damned yankee media?
Auburn Fans: By losing to LSU last night, the administration is no longer compelled to renegotiate Tubb's contract, as they seem to do after every big win. A few more losses like this and who knows, Tommy may be on the hot seat again. It'll be harder to sneak off to see Petrino, but what Lowder wants, Lowder gets, so never say never. Like Pat Dye, Tubberville seems to be stuck in a 8-3 to 10-1 kind of rut, and probably will be until he goes the way of "Shoot the Billy Goat". On the other hand, he HAS humiliated the Tide. Punt Bama Punt!
FSU Fans: By that I mean Fresno State Fans. You have one of the top 3-4 coaches in America, who has put together a fantastic program, coaches with intensity and compassion (see ?Field Goals, Missed, Kickers?) and has the greatest sports mustache of all time. I don?t know why he hasn?t been stolen away by a bigger program, but whatever the reason may be, I am truly enjoying watching you guys play.
ACC Fans: Basketball season starts soon.
I'm sure some other fans have reason to be happy, but I feel better already.
