If you look at the leaders they are averaging plus 1 for a round, followed closely by a few that are plus 2 average or slightly better. Its the US Open. It is supposed to be tougher than the local Muni course that is hosting a pitch and putt for the best in the world, who by the way pick and choose the course they want to go to 'work' and actually play, instead of sitting out 7 weeks in a row because you can? I enjoy watching the best in the world struggle every once in a while. I used to be a scratch golfer, and no way would I break 150 on that course, but it would be fun to try . Other than Zach Johnson and Phil 's actions I haven't heard too much complaining, but maybe I am missing something? ITS THE US OPEN!!!!

I agree. I don't get it at all. They were out there watering the greens this morning to soften them up to make them hold better? WTF?

It's the same condition for everybody so STFU and play the game.

Its pathetic, it really is.

Zach Johnson says they "lost the course". Week after week on the PGA tour these guys get perfect conditions, beautiful fairways and receptive greens. The rough isn't even very rough. Jesus Christ, at The Masters you can miss the fairly by 40 yards and still have a clear shot into the green - I'm not exaggerating.

Once as year they are asked to play in brutal conditions.....not even always, Koepka won last with with a -16!!!

I love this. Paul Azinger is right when he says it makes for great television. So its hard, boo fucking hoo.

I was at Shinnecock in 2004 I think it was. They kept watering the 7th green during play.....we all booed loudly.

Funnily enough, that year the top of the leaderboard was Goosen, Mickelson and Els, all ranked in the top 5 in the world. This year, they leaders include the No. 1 player in the world and the defending champion. Not exactly throwing up the flash-in-the-pan types is it?

Shut up and play, soft boys.

Look at all the under par scores today. They actually ruined this tournament. Jesus!

I don't think it was so much that the course was difficult, it's that it was playing so much different for the morning groups as it was the later groups. It was like two different courses. I think consistency is what they were looking for, not so much an easier course.
