It was a question that Michelle Wie dodged like a pro this week. Which would she rather do first, win an LPGA event or make a cut on the PGA Tour? Wie, 16, is making an appearance at the TPC at Deere Run for a second straight year.
When asked, Wie wants both. Playing in her fifth PGA Tour event, Wie is trying to become the first female to make a cut since Babe Didrikson Zaharias in 1945. Wie said Zaharias is one of the people she?s looked up to as her career has progressed, along with Mickey Wright and Tiger Woods. She was on the cusp of history in last year?s John Deere Classic, but bogeys on two of her final four holes left her two shots shy of the cut line. Wie had rounds of 70 and 71.
Both defending John Deere Classic defending champion Sean O?Hair and Iowa native Zach Johnson, who played a practice round with Wie today, predicted that history will be made this week. Wie played as an amateur in last year?s John Deere Classic. She turned pro in October.
