Monday see's the start of the greatest tennis tournament on the circuit. The one true test of any player, serve, volley and passing shots. Although last year favoured the players who play behind the baseline, there was a number of factors that contributed to that. Firstly the balls are slightly heavier than is normally used on the tour. This came about due to the final of two years ago when Ivanisevic and Rafter just blasted the ball and the longest rally was about five strokes. Secondly, and I think more importantly, the weather leading up to Wimbledon last year was of near persistant rain for a good few weeks which made the courts slower. By the time the second week came around, the big serve and volley players had all but gone.

Well although the ball remains heavier which slows the velocity through the air and is less receptive off the court, the weather has been fine for a good few weeks now, and the courts should be fairly fast. If the weather remains dry and fairly hot through the first week I don't think the balls will have much influence.

oh yeah..........he's correct..........in fact.......their are different balls for different surfaces. Trust me....ya know the difference in about 2 seconds........put a ball in my hand and I can tell ya right away what surface it is meant for

But Wimbledon goes a step further..........ya see there are balls made for "soft court" surfaces (red clay, har tru, carpet, etc.) and balls made for "hard court" surfaces (supreme, taraflex, deco turf, etc.). In fact.......these balls are made available to the general public.........for those of you in North America next time at sport store pick up a can of let's say "Penn" (brand name) tennis balls........it will say right on the can "for soft court" or "for hard court"........in fact Penn tennis balls with RED ink are for soft court and "black ink" are for hard court. But worth noting that 98% of the general public won't know the difference :) But the pros do...I'll tell ya that

Now.........back to Wimbledon..........I was there 2 years ago (just hit there....not in tourney) and I hit with the balls they were using.....HOLY CRAP is what I said........balls were "heavy" as hell.......Slazenger (the ball manufacteur for Wimbledon) and the dudes at the All-England club were messing around with the balls I can tell ya that..........then last year all the players were complaining how slow the court was playing............for fu**s sake Nalbandian made the final........had ralies from the baseline......no way that should happen on the grasscourt.....it shouls not be that slow

But this year.....the court should be faster.........and makes sense for the All-England club........why ya ask.....because of Rusedski and Henman.........faster the court the better for them.......and the English are dying for a British champ.........why not "soup up" the court for some homecourt advantage..........the Aussies did it a couple years back for Rafter........made the court fast as hell......

I haven't seen you on board the Pawa-Ex lately
It should have gone along way towards paying for your African safari mate. The thing is ..... it's been doing so well in the first half of the season, it usually does better in the second half!! God knows how far she can go yet?!! I hope you have been cashing in.

Good luck with your Wimbledon picks. I'll have some lazy $'s on your coat tail to keep me interested during the tourny.

......and don't mention your fuggin rugby side!!!

Kickserv, thanks for the info with different court surfaces and balls used. Saved me a job there.

Pawaqatsi, I have been on the express, not playing to your size stakes, but playing to the percentage recommended. If it holds it's course from now until the remainder of the season, yes I and my family will be able to have that holiday. I haven't contributed to your thread because it wouldn't be professional of me to comment on a sport I know very little about.

I have six plays today, and look to extend the profits further. The dogs are holding up well in the first week. What is pleasing from my aspect is that the staking has been good. From three and four point plays, the results record stands at 7 wins and 2 lossess.

Let's get straight onto the action then;

Plays for Thursday (Day4)

MASSU to beat El Aynaoui 1.5 pts +260........LOST
DUPUIS to beat Rochus 3 pts +110........LOST
SARGSIAN to beat Blake 1.5 pts +230.......WON
FERRERO to beat Escude 3 pts +110.........VOID
SORDERLING to beat Elseneer 3 pts -105.........WON
POPP to beat Sluiter 2 pts +180..........WON

BEST OF LUCK !!

Some of you may have noticed that there are two void bets. These were because of two re-tirements. Most books pay out on the player progressing to the next round regardless of the fact if that player was winning or losing the match. There are various conditions to this rule. Some books say ONLY one point has to be played, others say one SET has to be played.

Now anyone playing these games will have made an extra + 1.3 points, as one was a loser for 2 points and the other game won 3.3 points.

I have voided these plays as the book I played these games at stipulate that if a match is not completed in full then all bets on that particular match up will be deemed void. By myself keeping to with in the guide lines, no one can say I am fabricating the returns on investments.

WHERE EVER YOU ARE

BEST OF LUCK

WEEK 2 Monday 30th June

The weather in and around the London area today is wet and miserable. If it persists, then no play on any of the courts is a distinct possibility.

After racking up over 14 points profit in week one, I will post a few plays for the last round 4, but keeping stakes to a minimum.

"Henmania" is once again trying to sweep this country. Henman's chances of winning Wimbledon have passed him by. He is not in the same form of two years ago, he has passed his peak, and he no longer adopts the serve and volley on his second serve. He has returned from a lengthy injury absence as he's not the same player as pre injury, and I am sure the injury to his shoulder still plays on his mind. With this in mind, Henman's opponent Nalbandian is over priced and such opportunities should not be missed. I am not saying that Henman will lose or win for that matter, this is a case of his opponent being a bigger price than his chances are. On present form this match up should be priced as HENMAN @ -140 with NALBANDIAN @ +130. Yet the books are offering +188 for the later to win.

NALBANDIAN to beat Henman 1 pt @ +188
SCHALKEN to beat Schuetter 1.5 pts @ -105
GROSJEAN to beat Ferrero 1 pt @ +105

BEST OF LUCK

Well the winners continue to flow and the profits increase.

Yesterday and today (finish of Grosjean and Ferrero) the matches for Round 4 finished 2-1 in our favour and a profit of 1.48 points.

TOURNAMENT TO DATE..... + 16.08

Staking ?100 per point would have given you ?1,608.

NICE WORK FOR A WEEK (if you can get it !!!)

I may be back tomorrow with some quarter final plays and possibly an outright bet on the tournament. With the demise of A.A. and Hewitt this tournament is very much wide open and is not a forgone conclusion that Roddick will win. There are still a number of very capable guys who can win this.

Actually thought that Henman didnt play very well last match after I watched it. That kid sure can run balls down that most wouldnt even attempt. As a rule I try not to differ with kickserv on tennis as he is the master :hail but Ive got a different pick to win it all.

Watching a lot of 'scud' over the weekend and in the early rounds, really think this might be his tourney. For the money at +350 might be worth serious consideration. He's streaky as hell though. He will get by Popp.
