Got my 1st dose of it after purchasing my Winbook Z. Wondering what everyone thinks about it that have used it. Personally, I really can't tell that much difference and was curious as to what all the pre-hype was concerning it....

I've been using it for awhile now and love it. The main thing I like about it is its Hardware installation and recognition. When Installing Windows XP it doesn't ask you for a ton of different drivers for all your hardware. It seems to have them all there for you. Compared to previous windows where you would have to load drivers for your sound card, vid card, network card, etc etc. It can also pick up hardware on the fly. I had my computer running and attached a new printer to it. In the bottom corner a small msg popped up saying a printer has just been connected and then about 3 seconds later it said that the printer is now installed and ready to go. It didn't even ask for any drivers etc and recognized the exact model of the printer. I thought that was very cool.

It also makes setting up networks a breeze. You basically just have to hit set up network and it does all the settings for you automatically.

Those are the main features I like so far. I also can't remember my computer crashing yet since i've started using XP. Unlike other windows that would crash quite frequently.

It has many new features, but I haven't had time to use them all yet...

So far I've enjoyed it!

Was at a technology trades how a couple of weeks ago and watched Microsoft demo it. What Korn refers to are the some of the best features of the new setup. They spent tons of cash on ergonomic and aesthetics of XP. The color schemes are slightly different. The marketing is geared more for that stuff than the functionality. They are hyping the fact that you don't have to right click anymore and crap like that.

Overall, it will be an improvement, though.

I agree 100% with Korn. Very stable, user friendly, hardware is easy to install, and installing a home network is very simple. The built in firewall is a nice feature also. I would definitely recommend it.

I got a new computer with XP about three weeks ago and love it. I had win 98 and it used lock up my system and get unbearably slow. I like to keep about twenty sites open at the same time and on my old system, I had to reboot about every 6 hours or so that I was online. I still have not had to reboot with Xp. The memory management and stability alone make it worth the upgrade.

Hellah... definatly upgrade to XP... ME was the worst OS i've ever used... its messed up many of my friends comps and I went straight back to WIN 98 SE until XP came out...

Get XP, you won't be disapointed... (unless you have a much older system that is... Because there aren't proper drivers for some of the older hardware out there. Example: My older vid card, Voodoo2 and my older sound card do not work in XP. So unless your system is pretty old then I would go with XP... if it is old at the very least switch to 98 SE instead of ME)

thanks for your insight. I was gonna buy it off ebay..a full version. As long as its stable..Id care less about the child looking graphics and everything else people say about it. Everything I have is pretty new so I dont think I would have a problem with drivers. BTW get a GeForce 3...talk about graphics....weeeeeeeeee.....

I believe they should open up a second or third or whatever Anti-trust case against Microsoft just for that reason. Now Microsoft not only decides which Software is compatable they decide which HW is going to be used. Well It is reliable but it's b/c we are so used to MS prod's to not work right, this makes it look like they are doing something exceptional. Chit needed to work fine from the 3.11 and windows for workgroups days but they still pushed it to our throat w/ all the bugs and etc. We could have been fine w/o the mouse if didn't have to restart every couple hours.
I work at helpdesk for AOL (and that's another BS, I'll never understand why people use aol.), so I get to troubleshoot All MS operating systems. I hear the same from everybody "but it hasn't crashed yet".
HW compatibility is a big issue. But if you are buying a new computer, and get the XP preloaded thats fine. Trying to get the drivers for a cable or DSL modem, or drivers for a older scanner, video card etc. could be a pain.
JMO. wanted to vent a little.
