Got my Wisdom teeth pulled yesterday at about 5PM and I thought it would be no big deal and I would be able to do some things this weekend. However, I have been about as worthless as a tree stump. Talk about excrutiating pain and lots of bleeding the first day. Stopped bleeding this morning but I have been sleeping and drinking water the entire weekend....

OUCH

Occurs when the extraction area fails to clot properly, thus causing a dry socket. I'm assuming you had all four of yours taken out so there's a slight chance you could have dry sockets in all four areas, although I seriously doubt it. I only had one thank God! Similiar to someone gettin' a scab on some place of their body, and they continue to pick at it making it much worse. You want all four extraction areas to clot b/c these clots actually protect the area underneath them and speeds up the healing process. If they fail to clot, then your extraction areas will hurt like a sum bitch due to the exposed nerve endings. Most of the time, dry sockets happen for no apparent reason. However, there are a few things that you should NOT do to lessen the risk of getting them: smoking, carbonated beverages, drinkin' through a straw, & try to cut out the spittin'....If you unfortunately think you have one, they usually start roughly 3 days AFTER you have them taken out.

imo, it's all in who does the surgery. I had 1 pulled and 3 cut out, and it took the Oral Surgeon 35 minutes. I had the surgery done at 0900, and I ate lunch at 1130. I took 1 pain pill.

HOWEVER, other folks that I know who had it done had swelling in their faces so bad, they looked like chipmunks. I also have seen people who were black and blue from it. I had 1 friend who missed 3 days of work.

Good thing about the mouth is that it usually heals fast. You should be back in action by Monday.

Sunday update:

Watching NFL football and I feel great. No more bleeding!! I have eaten some solid foods today as well but it has been nibble nibble nibble with my front teeth. BTW, my wteeth were done by an oral surgeon as well. I am a smoker and have only violated one rule and smoked just a few (4-5 since friday)cigs, I know it's not good to do but it's just a nervous thing I guess - and an addiction. I really hate the stitches they put in there even though they are probably the reason I heeled up so fast. Have drank a lot of Evian and I think it is doing the trick as well.

That's the man, Neemer! I said 35 minutes, but it probably was a lot quicker, lol. The 35 minutes includes getting there, getting numbed up, surgery, and out the door. Super fast! I'm glad u didn't have some of these other BG hacks do the work!

he actually rents space from my ole man and comes to G-town once a week. wish i could have gotten it done here but schedule never worked out. he gave me a little cash discount and it worked out to be about $200 per extraction. Going rate I believe is roughly double that. I'm amazed at how quick he can get those suckers out. I started to think about how many patients he can get in and out in a typical work day. Being conservative, if the avg. is 30 mins., that's roughly 16 patients/day times 5 days a week. Believe I could live on around $6k a day or $30k a week or better yet, $1.5 mil. a year, allowing 2 weeks for vacation!

Twelve or so years ago I had four bone impacted wisdom teeth pulled. That wasnt bad enough, I partially woke up during the surgery and heard the crunching of pliars on teeth. That made me pass out. To top it off I got a dry socket that put me out for three more days. Absolute worst pain of my life.

The worst part was giving up 5th row seats to the Faith No More/GnR/Metallica show the next weekend. (funny the things we remember).

PHIL!!! You missed an awesome show! I was on the second row for the show in the Hoosierdome. Still the best concert I have ever seen. The lead singer for FNM dove into the crowd, and we passed him along 10 rows back before his security guy got his drunk/stoned butt back on stage. GNR played a full 2 hour set, and Metallica ended with a 3 hour jam session. That must have been some bad pain!

All I remember for the first two days is literally bleeding nonstop, nothing could stop it. I couldnt take painkillers for the most part because the bleeding/bad mouth feeling was causing constant booting. So between the puking, almost bleeding out and not being able to take painkillers, I was having a super week.

The funny thing is the actually asked me pre-op if I wanted to be out or awake during the surgery. My response "How far under can you put me before I am clinically dead?"

Real nice to be reliving this by the way, and thanks for rubbing it on on the concert... ;-)

Cheers,
