Outright plays (total stake per play: 1.5pts):

Sweden to win 8/1 @ BetInternet
A new event and a new course for the LPGA Tour, so there is anything but home advantage this week. But in terms of the links-type course at Fancourt, it should favour these two teams in particular. Gustafson is widely regarded as the best links player in the world and, like Koch, finished 2004 with a number of top-10 finishes. With a good history together in the Solheim Cup, they look the best value amongst the leading teams. It does help that this pairing did win a European-based World Cup in Ireland in 2000.

Scotland to win 12/1 e.w. @ Stan James
Thereafter comes Scotland. The pairing of Moodie and Matthew is also well-tested in the Solheim Cup, winning 2.5pts out of three together two years ago. They have been keen to stress how much they enjoy playing with each other in interviews and with both having a good record when travelling, they should certainly be in contention for a top-4 finish. Better odds are available elsewhere, but only with 3 places on offer.

Matchup plays (1.5pts unless stated):

Philippines to beat France -133 @ NordicBet
The team of Rosales and Delasin look very strong on paper, both closing the 2004 season in good form and with a good record on the road. They should be too much for the French team with Meunier-Lebouc, in particular, struggling to find the form that earned her a major title.

Scotland to beat France -110 @ SkyBet [4.5pts]
If I think that the French team will be mid-table at best, then this is an obvious play. The well-tested partnership of Moodie and Matthew look a much better complement to each other and are rather upbeat about their chances in their pre-event interviews. Adding a large play here to the outright play already made.

New Zealand to beat Germany -110 @ SkyBet and BetFred [3pts]
The key player in this matchup will be Lynette Brooky. She closed the 2004 in good form on the Ladies European Tour and finished 3rd in Singapore last week. Neither of the Germans have showed any form in recent months and last week Eberl finished 32nd, while Esterl shot 78-81 to miss the cut. Gina Scott had a couple of runners-up finishes last year, so she looks unlikely to let her partner down.

Outrights - FINAL RESULT: 1-1; -0.45pts

Sweden 16th
Scotland 4th

Happy to nearly break-even on these plays after Moodie was 8-over-par after 12 holes in the final round. Wasted a golden opportunity after Scotland were tied for the lead heading into the final round and still only finished three shots behind the winners, Japan.

Matchups - FINAL RESULT: 3-0-0; +9.00pts

Philippines/France WON by 13
Scotland/France WON by 12
New Zealand/Germany WON by 7

Three comfortable wins to ensure a decent profit on the event and a nice start to the LPGA Tour season.

Laura Davies described it in interview as the toughest course that they will play all year on the LPGA Tour.

But like any links course - if you combine wind with hard greens, players will struggle.

Rustiness at start of season was also a factor ;)
