I admittedly know next to nothing about soccer and international soccer.

I drew the second pick in an eight team snake draft.

First round - Second overall
Second - 15 overall
Third - 18 overall
Fourth - 31 overall

Scoring:
Three points for each win by selected team
One point for each draw (group stages only)
No bonus points for advancing or winning, etc

Any advice, input or ideas is more than welcomed. Obviously Im looking at current odds as well. Thanks

2010 is the only World Cup final not to feature one of Brazil, Germany, Argentina or Italy.

How have the favourites fared at the World Cup since 1986?

Champions (3)
Runners-Up (1)
Third (2)
Quarter-Finals (2)

Interesting. Since you have the second pick, you are really going to have to pick a finalist to have a chance since your next pick is not until 15. I think you have 4 options at 2: Brazil, France, Germany and Spain. It is likely that Brazil and/or Germany will go first. If the brackets go as planned, Brazil and France will be on one side and Germany and Spain on the other. Germany likely has the easiest draw to the semi-finals. However, it is very tough to repeat. Spain may have to go through Argentina in the quarterfinals. France has a tough round of 16 game either way and I am not as big on Brazil as everyone else. Germany is the safe pick to get to the semi's and then it is a crap shoot. I like the risk with Spain.

At 15 you have to find one of the last round of 16 teams and hope they can win a game. My guess is the following may be available: Group A runner up - maybe Russia or Egypt, maybe Swiss, Group H runner up - Poland/Columbia, Group C Runner up - Peru/Denmark, maybe Mexico since most think Sweden will be the runner up. I would focus on Poland and/or Columbia if by chance they are available here, then Denmark or Peru.

As far as later, the african teams are completely unpredictable but all worth a shot in the following order: Nigeria, Tunisia, Senegal. Mexico again and maybe Serbia.

Those are my quiz thoughts. Happy to answer any questions.

I think Germany has the likely easiest draw to get into the semifinals at the very least. I would try for them with your #2 pick, if not then Spain or France. I'd hope the person before you picks Brazil. I think they are likely candidates to get knocked out in the quarterfinals.

Thank you all for your input. Very much appreciated.

I will let you know Monday how the draft goes and will do a little more digging this weekend.
