My knowledge is limited to a weeks worth of studying the teams, etc., apologies for bringing this part of the forum down a notch with my misinformed plays. Please feel free to correct any obvious mistakes (I'm sure there will be plenty) on my part.

I know the World Cup champs are usually limited to the elite teams..longshots are generally out of the running, but I'll give it a shot anyway..

To Win World Cup 2002:
Portugal 12-1

If by some miracle that happens, I figure I should go with the Portugal theme and take a player from their squad to win the Golden Boot along with Portugal winning the Cup..

To Win Cup And Top Scorer:
Portuagal and Pauletta +8000

To Win Group B:
Paraguay 4-1

To Qualify For Second Round:
Sweden 7/4

To Not Qualify For Second Round:
Ireland 7/8

Hoops,

Good to see you checking in. Your contirbution is very welcome, believe me.

Here is my two cents on your plays so far. I have followed most of these teams a bit, but probably not to the level of some of the guys from Europe and other parts of the world in this forum.

Portugal is a good team from everything I hear but there are just two problems. One, Figo's form has been really off lately for his club team. Two, if they happen to slip from first place in the group they would likely face Italy in round two. For the money and the way they have played internationally lately, though, it is probably a good play.

Paraguay winning their group is a solid play in my opinion. Obviously Spain are favorites but they have a history of choking and Paraguay is definitely underrated.

I personally don't agree with the Sweden play, but I think the Ireland play is rock solid. It is really hard to imagine Cameroon or Germany faltering. Anything can happen on the field but Ireland would really have to pull a big upset to advance. Sweden will have a tough go of it in my opinion. They do have one of the world's hottest players in Freddie Ljumberg, but it just seems from top to bottom they don't match up well in the group.

Good luck.

Nick- Thanks for the feedbag. Considering you have England going all the way, I didn't think you would agree with my Sweden play. But they do seem to have England's number from what I've read..hopefully that stays true to form.

Anders- Best of luck to you as well in the tournament. If you still have my email addy, send one along as I lost yours making a computer switch.

Where is Australia or New Zealand in this darn thing??;)
