i would think that petrino would go to a bigger program if he decided to go back to college...

here is what i found on the espn site...

Sources: Petrino leaving NFL for Arkansas job
ESPN.com

Updated: December 11, 2007, 6:16 PM ET

Bobby Petrino will resign his position as coach of the Atlanta Falcons and is close to an agreement to become the new coach at the University of Arkansas, multiple sources tell ESPN.

According to sources, Petrino and his agent have been talking with the Falcons about his preference to return to the college ranks. The former Louisville coach was looking for an opportunity to break into the Southeastern Conference ranks, and Arkansas was a natural fit.

There is no deal yet between Petrino and Arkansas, but once there is, Petrino is expected to be paid around $3 million a year, sources said.

Petrino signed a five-year, $24 million contract to be the Falcons head coach, so he will be taking a pay cut to re-enter the college ranks. The Falcons are 3-10 and have had their season torn apart by Michael Vick's involvement in a dogfighting ring and subsequent 23-month jail sentence, which was levied Monday.

Petrino will succeed Houston Nutt, who was hired by Mississippi immediately after resigning at Arkansas. Tommy Tuberville and Tommy Bowden were both linked to the Arkansas opening, but they remained as coaches at Auburn and Clemson, respectively.

Arkansas flirted with hiring Jim Grobe -- a private fundraising arm for the Razorbacks approved a salary supplement for the Wake Forest coach -- but Grobe stayed with the Demon Deacons.

Information from ESPN.com senior NFL writer John Clayton was used in this report.

My guess is that he is waiting on the LSU job to come open when Miles leaves to Michigan....But if he goes to Ark. then West is really tough and who will go to LSU?

From Peter King at SI.com

Though Petrino steadfastly maintained he was in the Falcons job for the long haul -- and Blank reiterated that definitively after discussing the college vacancies with Petrino Nov. 25 -- he clearly was uncomfortable with several factors as an NFL head coach. The Hall dustup, for instance, did not end just because the team fined him $100,000 for conduct detrimental to the team after the September incident. Hall continually said nettlesome things in the press, which angered Petrino, but he realized he was powerless to do much about it until at least this offseason, when he knew he'd be able to cut or trade Hall. Petrino clearly did not like the power players have in pro football versus how coaches can dictate to players in college football.

I agree with you on all of this, but Miles is unfortunately not going to Michigan :com:

JMHO, but Bobby will continue his downward spiral
at Fayetteville. Houston Nutt, say what you want,
was an overachiever that got his talent to over-
achieve on a VERY consistant basis. He was an
excellant recruiter, motivator, and head coach.
We shall see. Will be very curious to see what
happens the next 5 years comparing the Ole Miss
program to the Arky program.
