the siena saints are an enigma once again this TY, losing sat to delaware by 9 pts in a game that left hc lanier scratching his head...the saints were listless, unfocused & actually looked confused for a good part of the game w/ defense sorely lacking, allowing many uncontested 3's; lanier, searching for a reason, could only attribute the embarassing performance to the preceding long layoff & promptly ordered a mandatory-attendance film session for that evening, forcing some of the players to re-arrange their sat evening fox patrol...game was even in just about every category, FT% esp noteworthy for both teams (89% for the hens), del going 11-12 final 2 min making the diff...this was a game the (real) saints would have won by 9-10, instead they get the L...
so into the pepsi arena (albany, ny) tonite comes nationally ranked xavier w/ david west &...leonard chalmers?
yes, this is a big deal locally--chalmers was a dominating HS player in the albany area (maybe box knows something about him) & this will be his homecoming of sorts, his first hometown collegiate appearance & there will be lots of love (& vocal support) for him here tonite...he's improved his #'s annually, something you love to see, & is currently the musketeers' 2nd leading scorer (13.8ppg, 5 assists) @ point guard...west has commented that chalmers & the whole team want to put on an impressive show in his hometown...
the pepsi is a nice venue, an ncaa tourney site (again) TY...the saints call this homecourt (& it is, they play all their games here) but they practice on-campus...i think the chalmers contingent will take some of the steam out of HC advantage...
we all remember the great run siena had in LY's tourney...then, they were playing fast, loose & comfortable w/ nothing to lose...this edition is apparently still trying to find their identity...
xavier knows who they are: the team who just demolished ball st by 29 last fri...
siena ain't no ball st, @ least not now...
Xavier by 20, prob more...gl, caper

GL Caper, circled this game yesterday as a play..Like the way X is playing this year and I agree, a 20 something victory would not surprise me..

caper, great write up.You said it all.XU should blow the Saints away.Chalmers is an Albany kid and it will be nice playing home.Matta scheduled this game for him a la Dean Smith.
Saints got blown out by the Hens the other nite in the Pepsi A.XU should do the same.Sato,Chalmers,West, etc Way to much for Miller, karawanga and co.
Also my daughters best friend just got back from Siena.Student body is gone.Chalmers friends and family might equal Saints crowd.GLAgain nice write up

remember the siena team i mentioned from LY's ncaa tourney?... that's who showed up last nite & gave xavier all they could handle...except for starting slowly--which was the difference between covering or not--x played well but siena played over the top...haddix has a career game, everything goes the saints' way--well, you get the picture...my biggest single loss of the year, on top of losing 4 of 5 (manhattan my only winner)...hc lanier must be 1 hell of a motivational speaker...merry christmas & a safe, healthy & profitable ' 03 to all...thanx to jack for the great site...gl, caper
