I like Yale(6-4) at home over visiting Rhode Island (3-3) tonight.

Yale is 3-0 at home this year with 10+ point victories over Sacred Heart, Army and Albany in New Haven. The Bulldogs have already played 7 road games including in two tournaments.

Yale is shooting much better than the Rams with a 45% to 35% advantage. Yale is also much bigger underneath, with a pair of 6-8 230 forwards Vitelli and McHugh leading the team in rebounding. Rhode Island's leading rebounder Lazare Adingono is a much more slender 6-6 195.

The Rams are in the middle of a cross-country road trip with games at USC (12/4), Valparaiso (12/8) before going on to Pittsburgh (12/15) before returning home to Kingston. They lost to USC by 28 and to Valparaiso by 25.

RI --

I'm not answering for loophole3 but personally I use Jeff Sagarin's ratings as a guide. It takes a lot less time to use his numbers, but is probably less accurate than what loophole3 is doing.

For tonight's game, Sagarin's numbers are:

71.71 (Yale) - 65.27 (RI) + 3.91 (home advantage) = 10.35

basicly follow the same process except i use the massey ratings instead of sagarin. he has a few tweaks in his ratings that i like and he's pretty diligent in updating them. i also use a five point home court addition which is slightly larger than most. the standard deviation in massey's ratings is a little over ten. keep in mind that power ratings are a starting point only and you should then make your handicapping adjustments for injuries, suspensions, matchups, rivalries, unusual travel arrangements, etc. that's where science stops and art begins in the field of predicting human behavior.
