lilly vs. santos
lilly can throw a pretty decent game once in a while, but still carries a hefty 4.99 era, and his last 4 confirm that fact.
on the other hand, santos, who carries a 3.92 era, was hit hard his last 2 as a starter, came back in relief, and has not pitched for about a month. santos' problem seems to be that he can't keep up as a starter, and judging by previous performance, his first 2 starts coming off relief were dandies, allowing 0 and 2 runs in 6 innings of work each. the next two were disastrous, allowing a full 10 era.
so there is a big question mark as to santos' ability to pitch a good 5 or 6 after such an absence, but there are two pluses here going for detroit, even if santos can't pitch that well or that long:
detroit hits left handers silly; much, much better than righties, and....they are getting +150 to boot.
a rare ocassion indeed, when i take a home dog, but this one seems to be worth it.
