When I'm sipping on a glass of tea at a restaurant and they refill my glass without asking me first.

Sometimes I have the ultimate mix of tea, sugar, ice and lemon. I want to savor every drop, before I start a new glass and attempt to reach perfection again. Then when I look away for a minute, the damn waitress sneaks up and screws it all up.

SWEET tea??? <Gag>

Unsweetened with lemon is the only way to go.

Let's see if this thread will degenerate to a name calling argument about tea.

I grew up in Atlanta, so I know all too well about southern sweet tea. Now when I go back to the southeast I always have to specify "unsweetened" tea.

The worst has got to be at Oriental restaurants. They almost take the glass right of your hand.

reminds me of something

reminds me of something

When I was in Canada this past fall, you should have seen the look when I asked for sweet tea. I quickly learned that drink is not served in Canada. All the waitresses in Canada knew how to do was ask if I wanted gravy on my french fries, lmao! "I'll have the bacon cheeseburger with fries and a sweet tea." Waitress, "Sweet tea? We have iced tea. Do u want gravy on your fries?" I thought to myself, they don't know what sweet tea is and they want to frikkin' put gravy on my french fries????? I love gravy and all, but not on my french fries, and especially not some nasty old beef gravy, lol!

Fries and gravey are a Canadien Thing.
Like when I'm in the States I get a sandwich or burger , etc. and every freekin time, it comes with chips-- I hate chips.
I guess each area or country has it's own little 'quirks' that get ya scratching your head. I go nutty when I order fries with something and I ask for Malt Vinegar. Some places don't have it ,and they look at me as if I just asked for the winning Loto numbers.
You just never know...

Here in the states you will probably have to go to Long John Silver's in order to get malt vinegar.

On the course!
Gravy on fries is a big hit in the South. Up North, we use ketchup, and some people use mayo, or tartar sauce.

Mayo on fries. UUUUGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Man I had just ate too. Actually like a bit
of vinegar on me fries. Must be a east
coast thing being from the DC area. I just
get strange looks out here in SoCal. As for
the all important tea question, of course it
has to be sweet. :drinky:

But we must look at the fact that if you are attempting to achieve perfect tea, the ratio of ice directly effects the amount of sweetner/lemon one should use. The perfect glass of tea begins with the ice and ends with the ice.

42.5 to 61.3% of the glass should be ice. And yes, I use one lemon per glass. So if you want to refill it, give me some lemons.

And for those establishments that don't make sweet tea, keeping the proper sweetening balance in your tea is harder than passing tort reform.

Let me get close to the bottom, and then fully refill it. I appreciate the top-offs at every opportunity, but constant refillings play havoc with my iced-tea alchemy.

Mayo on fries?

Mayo on fries?

C'mon yyz, Nobody eats mayo on fries!!? Except maybe a few freaks. Vinegar, gravey or ketchup is ok.
Tea should refer to hot tea and iced tea is for cold. This sweet tea thang still throws me for a loop here in NC. Its usually too sweet.

My fav french fry ploy: In effort to avoid those that have been sitting under lamp and making sure they are fresh fried I always request absolutely no salt. That way they have to make them fresh. I do get some funny looks from waitress when they bring them and 1st thing I do is salt the hell out of em.:D

You're absolutely right DTB!

My first job was at Wendy's in the mall and I was the "fry guy". I always had to sprinkle a little salt on each batch of fries I cooked. I always hated the customers that ordered the fries with no salt because I had to dump a new batch of fries in the damn fryer instead of giving them the ones I already had pre-boxed and waiting under the lamp for the past 30 minutes or so. :)

I should have started out waiting tables somewhere making good tips instead of soaking up about a cup of grease a day making my acne even worse than it already was.
