You know you're old when you have cataract surgery.

Right eye was done Thursday the 16th. Left eye gets done Thursday the 30th.

Any experiences, pro or con, I should know about?

I can't really comment about my success until a few weeks after I get my left eye done but I can share my opinion of what's been done so far.

My father had this done about 4 years ago and it didn't go well at all, it was a complete disaster, in other words it didn't help at all. I mean I guess it could have been worse he could have went blind. It was just complication after complication, he went back like 3 or 4 times to "get it fixed" and nothing worked. Let's just say he was pissed off with the entire process. It took quite a bit of time for his vision to get back where it was before the procedures, so yeah, it was not fun for him.

Oh and forgot to mention, at first he thought everything was fine, thought everything went well, if I remember correctly it was like a week after everything was done where it all went to shit. So yeah if he saw this thread he say this....."don't do it"!

I only have one eye done so far and everything seems to have gone well but it's only been 9 days for the one eye. But, even with only one eye done I can drive without glasses and see mid to far away with no glasses. I can only imagine this will even improve after I get the left eye done.

I can't see shit for close up, like reading my text messages on my phone. Both eyes didn't cost me one dime but I was too cheap to get the lens that would have corrected that as well. They wanted $2k per eye extra because insurance wouldn't pay for that. I figured I wouldn't mind using readers for close up. That was a mistake on my part.

I guess I can go back and have closeup corrected by switching lenses but I'll just live with it this way. It was not something I enjoyed having done. There was absolutely no pain at all and it only took about 15 minutes to perform the surgery but not something I want to go through again.

Hopefully the rest goes well and I don't experience what your dad went through.

They told me for the two weeks following surgery, under no circumstance touch the eye or get water in it. I followed those directions better than anybody could have. Now I have to go through that all over again after Thursday.

$2K extra for each eye for a different lens? I call bullshit on that one. I can't imagine the other lens costs more than the one I got, it's just something for the eye joint to collect some extra money. Everybody has an angle to fuck you over.

Well so far it doesn't sound so bad (although the "close up" thing doesn't sound so fun). Hopefully it all works out, as I mentioned with my Father, at first he had no problems at all, he thought everything was good, it just turned ugly after the week/two week mark.

I did pay the extra for the better lens, at the time it was an extra $1300 for each.
This past August I had a Vitrectomy performed to get rid of floaters that had formed as a result of a torn retina. Unbelievable how well I can see now.

Glad to hear, Morris. Yeah, I already know I messed up not getting the better lens. My buddy had it done and didn't get the closeup lens and he is very happy so I went that way because of him.

I didn't have the same restrictions that you did. They just told me no direct water pressure for a few days.
After about 2 years I noticed a haze around lights and the tv at night it was only one eye which is the reason I noticed it. I went in and had Yag surgery. It's pretty common I guess. The surgery is done with a laser right in the office and took 10 seconds. No pain whatsoever.

I just got back from the store and didn't take my glasses. I wanted Pace medium and I could not read it. See what happens after I get the other eye. Luckily I bought the medium.
