I didn't get that from the article at all. Wearing a mask is better than not wearing a mask. Isn't that common sense? Some masks are better than others.

But when testing their effectiveness, researchers discovered that some masks are quite literally useless.

This includes those gaiters and cloth mask that 80% of us seem to have.

If they want to end the whole thing... encourage everyone to seek out those who have it so everyone gets infected and after a month whoever is still here is here and well everyone else is gone but so will the virus.

Except it doesn't work like that because coronaviruses typically do not produce lasting immunity, herd immunity for any communicable respiratory disease has not been achieved outside of a vaccine, and the morbidity associated with that scenario for those who did not die would not be appealing. I'm not implying everyone should be scared and we should be closing everything - I've got as much q fatigue as anyone - but the way we get to doing things we want to do is by taking precautions not trying to come up for every possible excuse to not take precautions.

Yes on the gaiters but I don't know where you're seeing cloth masks lumped in with that.

If 95 percent of people wear cloth masks when within 6 feet of other people in public, it will reduce COVID-19 transmission by at least 30 percent. So if every infected person transmits the virus to 30 percent fewer people, it improves the chances of subduing COVID-19?s spread in the United States.

You didn't link the article so not sure which one you read. I can't find a link to the actual study - I only see articles summarizing the results. But they all say the same thing - all masks help except the gaiter. Just a question of how much they help. So it seems like the article you read mis-represented the study's findings.
