On the fourth game of the world series they ( mastercard?) will be posting what they consider the most memorable moment in baseball history. A tough task indeed.

I thought we might have some fun picking our own.

For me, being a Red Sox fan, I have to believe it was the ground ball going through gimpy Bill Buckner's legs and blowing the world series for us.
An umpire retrieved the ball and later sold it for $63000!

Back in the Spring of 1983 or so, dont remember the exact year, I was down in Ft Lauderdale and my grandpa brought me to the Yankees spring training camp. Well I wore my Red Sox hat with pride and took ribbing from a lot of the players. What did I care I was 8 at the time!

So my grandpas friend was the guy running all the concessions and clubhouse work at the park, so he takes me by the hand and says we'll be right back. So we are walking through this dungeon of a place, and pop suddenly we are in the clubhouse. Well who is there, drinking a Miller Lite none other than Billy Martin.

I was so stunned. He said "Hey little guy you know something?" So I said "No Mr. Martin, whats that?" He says in this really low voice "The Sox, they suck." I was a litle kid so we had a good laugh and took a couple pictures. Anyway, a few weeks after that, I get a letter from my grandpas friend. In it is the picture of me and Billy, autographed. It reads "To Phil, thanks for stopping by. Your friend, Billy Martin."

Best day of my life as fan, hard to think it will be topped. For all the guys faults he took 5 minutes and made my day. I cried like a baby when I heard he died.

Whenever they run those promos, I wonder what kind of person thinks Lou Gehrig's retirement speech is the most memorable moment in baseball history AND is going to cast a vote on the internet.

I think part of baseball's lack of appeal to the younger generation is their non-stop promotion of the game's past. What kind of kid wants to watch baseball when during every one of their biggest games they roll out dusty old piles of bones while the fans stand on their feet applauding for 10 minutes? Meanwhile, the NFL is playing "Puddle of Mud" songs as they go to commercial and outlining plays using Madden2003.

My most memorable baseball moment was Dale Berra and Mike Pagliarulo getting arrested for urinating in a public place back in like 1990 during the golden age of the Yanks. Although the Mariner's Moose roller-blading into the wall and breaking his leg is up there.

If I'm not mistaken, Rose breaking Cobb's record isn't even one of the choices. I may be mistaken.
