Just my .02 but I hope Zags walks off into the sunset. He has beaten everybody there is to beat and there is no sense trying to further his legacy. A fight with Dawson would be his undoing...too big, too strong, too fast for Joe. I'd love to see that fight but Zags has nothing more to prove. He ruined Lacy, beat an excellent fighter in Kessler, got by a tough Hopkins and dominated Roy. Call it a career, grow old and go out as only the 2nd undefeated champion ever w/Marciano. Ottke doesn't count in my book.

Congrats to the Zags backers! It was an excellent wkend! Sorry Paul but still looks like you had a good profit despite RJ losing..

totally agree...dawson shouldn`t be an option for joe...

give your peeps something they can always remember..

i always bashed calzaghe regarding his competition level and the fact that he never left home...

but, imo,he put some of that to rest by coming to the states and closing an excellent career strongly...

i can`t believe he needs the bread...

good on ya`,joe...

I could not agree with you more Romi.

I said this in the other thread, Dawson is a guy Joe can do without.
He is not known in the mainstream and it would shock the shit out of people and blunt Joe's legacy when Dawson wins.

In hindsight, I should have hedged more on this fight but I got a bit greedy in the hopes that some of the old Roy would show up.
I was crying in my pint of milk when Roy did not bother his arse to follow up after he decked Joe with that wicked right wrist.

I was far more pissed off that I lost my Augustus bet as I deserved the win and got ripped off.

With Jones, I lost fair and square so I can't complain.
I made the wrong call. It happens :toast:

I bet on Augustus as well and was livid about the decision

I had him clearly winning

I had Augustus straight and Augustus by 10 rnd dec
(prop got voided when the rounds were changed to 8)

We got robbed on that one my friend

But I'm going to be watching for the next time that kid Figueroa fights...he ain't nothing special...

i wonder what augustus` record would look like if he`d actually been given every decision he actually deserved to win?....

i bet it`d be quite a bit more impressive...it`s criminal..

heard from a few different people this morning that Zags was as low as -200 in Vegas by fight time !

WOW.

I really regret not checking that out...at that price I would have def gone bigger on him....oh well...live and learn....

guess the name Roy Jones had more than a few people throwing down some cash.....amazing when you think about it....really wasn't a close fight after the first 2 rounds....

If Calzaghe still has the hunger I see no reason why he shouldn't go on. He's set himself up for mega paydays by beating 2 legends on a huge stage and is probably fighting better than he ever has - his ability, experience and new weight division have seemed to gel to make a very tough guy to beat. Of course, they longer he hangs around he puts his O in serious peril. Still, I'd love to see him fight Glen Johnson and Chad Dawson. Either man could spring the upset.

Calzaghe was -200 at sportsbetting about two hours before the fight and closed at that number

Btw1, while I agree that Calzaghe doesn't need to fight Dawson and he should retire...I think Calzaghe would win that fight

Btw2, Hopkins is another fighter who should quit while he's ahead

we disagree here,bud.....i think it would be a HUGE UPSET if joe beat dawson... a younger, faster, harder punching, naturally bigger more athletic guy.......

imo, dawson would be a prohibitive favorite...

he tries to shoeshine dawson...sticks his chin out like he did vs old roy,he won`t see the final bell...

just because zags stops fighting doesn`t mean he stops earning...maybe not the gazillions of dollars he gets for a big fight...but,he still has earning power...

i`m sure he`s uber-rich.....what`s more important?...more money(that he`ll probably never spend)or a legacy that he leaves not only for himself, but for his peeps...

there`ll ALWAYS be one more fight for the money grubbers that surround the greats......that`s what those that glom off a guy like joe will say...

he has to answer that for himself...i would advise him at 37 or 38 to walk away.....as only the greats can...at the top of his game(ala marciano/jim brown/barry sanders)....

only a few have done it...

just my opinion..

I think too Joe should retire, he's pushing 37 and he's been twice down against grand pappys, then rocked against Kessler.

Dawson though is not the sure commodity some want to see in him.
He clearly lost to Johnson.
I would make him 50/ 50 against Zags though, mainly due to Calzone's bad hands.

I have ten reasons why he won't retire after a big win versus Jones.
$$$$$$$$$$.

If I were Joe I would take a last fight in Wales against an easy opponent...a farewell fight so to speak for him and his fans at home...

Dawson could beat him, he seems to be improving with every outing, he didnt impresse me against Johnson, but against Tarver he really looked strong and Calzaghe being down twice in his last two fight....that had me a little concerned.

Calzahge is actually pretty close to 50-0, I think he still needs 4 fights...but I feel that would be too much...if he took 4 fights against good fighters a la Dawson, I'm sure his 0 would finally go...
