Hopefully my picks have a little more credibility after going with Cornell +30 last night and recommending Indiana ?2 the night before.

CBB: 70-54, +9 units

Oakland plays against Akron in the first round of the Boilermaker Invitational tonight in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Oakland (2-3) lost to Michigan and Irvine by less than eight each, and also to Pittsburgh. They blew out St. Marys MI and Robert Morris.

Akron (2-2) must be terrible as they somehow managed to lose to both Monmouth and Hampton in Akron. They did beat Iona and Liberty on the road.

Oakland has a good team, they return all five starters and have dreams of beating Valparaiso to win the Mid-Continent and a trip to the NCAAs. Oakland has never been to March Madness and if it?s going to happen this is the year as most of their starters are seniors. Oakland has improved their aggressiveness on the boards and I was impressed that they out-rebounded Irvine, who has a pair of 7 footers.

Revenge is a factor here: Akron beat Oakland at home last year.

Akron is a bottom MAC team and while the MAC teams have been playing well that doesn?t include Akron. In their loss to Monmouth, the Zips were down double digits for most of the game.

Akron lost 6-6 starting forward Thompson with a knee injury in their last game and he is out indefinitely.

Oakland is definitely the play here, the Golden Grizzlies are pumped to get into the finals against Purdue and get some national attention ? they want nothing more than to be this years Cinderella at the Big Dance. Akron is a lousy MAC team and has shown nothing so far this year.

Take Oakland and the points.

Very big error in your post, Akron has yet to play at home. Those losses were in the role home team in tourney.

Nonetheless, I'm also on Oakland.

My bad, Akron's losses to Monmouth and Hampton were in Hawaii at the Thanksgiving Day tourney.

You're right, they were only in the role of "home team". Sorry.

Don't be sorry, just did not want to let a mistake cost you cash tonight. Still believe you are on the correct side.

A little food for thought though is that Akrons 3pt ace Falknor is getting back into shape after an injury and may well help the Zips cause. He was amongst NCAA leaders last season.

Still I like Oakland's chances

Good Luck.

Spang --

Once again you're right, Falknor was #2 in the nation last year in 3-point percentage but got injured late in the year doing wind sprints in practice.

I think he'll come back okay but from what I've heard he's not going to be making any big contributions tonight. If I have my facts right, he's only played a total of 7 minutes so far this year and he didn't play at all in Akron's last game and just one minute in the game before that.

He Hate Me --

Sorry, I listen to the UCI games on the radio and it's tough to tell how tall the guys are.

Actually I was counting Korfman who has played in 5 of the Anteaters 6 games and goes 7-2, 275. He played 10 minutes in their game vs Oakland.

Zips never threatened despite the return to serious playing time from Falknor. The Zips guards simply can not take care of the ball, and have no inside game as well. Add those two factors together and the results will be a horrendous season for Akron.

The Zips have also lost forward Thompson for the season with a knee injury. He was co captain and could hit the glass a bit.

I can't wait to go see W Ky when they invade next Weds. They should crush the Zips with ease, and still may a bit of a value after their loss to Creighton.

Good Post Superbook!
