Hey guys,

I was wondering if you might be able to help me out with a hw assignment I have. It is for my business ethics class.

I need to know more about

Most popular places to gamble?
In what states is gambling legal and which have casinos?
What is the probabilities of winning at table games, and I mean all of them?
What are the types of games??

I absolutely love this assignment. We had to have some speaker come in and talk to us about the so called "evils of gambling" and while some of it was pretty sad, I found most of it to be pretty funny because I like to do this for fun and never let it get out of control. If anyone can give me any info on these topics it would be greatly appreciated.

Here is what my outline sort of looks like so far:

GAMBLING

I. Types of Games or other wagering propositions
1. Blackjack
2. Craps
3. Slot Machines
4. Poker
5. Carribean Stud
6. Sports Wagering
7. Baccarat
8. Horse or Dog Racing
9. Keno
10. Video game type wagering (Video poker, video slots, etc.)
11. Roulette

II. Odds

1. Casino average payout ratio 92-98 %
This means for every $100 the casino takes in it pays out in between $92-98.

2. Odds in video games and slot machines usually run about an 88-94% payout ratio depending on the type of slot machine or video game.

3. Blackjack along with Poker have the best odds for table games (little known fact). However, these odds remain in the favor of the casino.

4. Roulette, Craps, Carribean Stud, and Baccarat are table games with the worst odds. Keno has terrible odds as well.

5. Sportsbook odds vary from game to game. There is usually a line and the favorite is favored by a negative amount of points. You can bet on anything in a sports game today. Total number of points scored, sides, which player will score the most points, Halftime lines, future bets (i.e. who will win the Superbowl in 2002), etc.

III. Places to Gamble

1. Las Vegas
2. Atlantic City
3. Kansas City
4. South Dakota
5. Iowa

It's not really complete yet so I was wondering if I could get some help from people that know these things right off the top of their head or have something to add.

Thanks A lot

Foxwoods Resort and casino, Connecticut. the LARGEST in North America.

St Louis, MO and all their deliciously wild riverboat casinos.

also... you are taking on a shitload of work here dude.. trust me on this when i say be prepared to devote your entire existence into this thing for the next couple weeks if you want to really make it high speed low drag type stuff. Two years ago I did a paper for Economics class on relating sports wagering to the stock market and the way pointspreads move and how stock prices move... was very interesting. By the time i was done with just that aspect of it i had about 40 pages including diagrams... What you are talking about doing could lend itself to become an entire book or running series!
I would suggest just taking two, maybe even three points and really working those points hard. Take a table game and dissect it. Completely.

My teacher loved the report I ended up turning in. There was one small catch with it tho. After reading it and grading it, she called me in the office and asked one simple question:
"How do you know all this stuff?"
You wanna talk about akward situations? That was one of them!!!!!

But good luck on the paper man, and if you need anything in particular let me know via email or somethign and i can hook you up.

other wagers the casino offers:
the lucky 7's on the BJ tables. play a dollar and if yer first card is a 7 you win 3.. a pair of 7's and win 50, and so on... 7,7,7 suited nets 5 grand at foxwoods. But then again... that is the biggest sucker bet i have ever seen.

the odds on it are staggering. Although i did see a guy sittin at first base get 7d, 7d his first two cards. he took the hit and his eyes were sooooooooo WIDE open!!! the dealer looked at the card and damn near shit his pants... it was the 6 of diamonds.

Other things to include. you can quote me on this even...L*
"If the casino is offering it to the player, they will make money off of it"
be it gimmick table bets, slot machines, a frickin bubblegum machine or insurance on the 21 table... they will get the public with it. maybe not each person. but over 51% will be had.

Over the 2 year course that the Riverboat in Iowa offered Lucky 7 tables...my mother won the suited 7's 3 times, the non suited 7's 164 times, and WAY too numerous to count the double 7's.....

luck on my parents part has to figure in there somewhere, too, tho......LOL, cuz a couple of years ago, on back to back nights, first dad, then mom, won $20,000 on the same slot machine.

(another side note....LOL.........they did NOT show a gambling profit, if that tells you anything

In places to gamble you certainly want to devote a section to all the online casinos and offshore sportsbooks. Also within about 40 minutes of downtown Chicago you have probably 7 or 8 riverboats all with much higher limits than Iowa and South Dakota.Don't forget to include all the thorobred (sp?),harness and dog tracks. Even though they have a HUGE take they still are pretty popular across the U.S. One final note, Baccarat actually has some the lowest odds around, approx. 1.5% for a player or banker bet.

KNEIFL:

IN PARAGRAPH 4 I WOULD REMOVE BACCARRAT AND CRAPS AS TERRIEBLE ODDS ON TABLE GAMES FOR THEY ACTUALLY OFFER THE PLAYER PERHAPS THE BEST ODDS IN THE HOUSE. THE WORST. THE BIG WHEEL!!!! GOOD LUCK AND ALWAYS HAPPY GAMING

interesting that there would be a casino in Arizona when the senator wanted to ban everyone from casinos, I guess he should worry about his back yard before he worrys about the nation. I am actually doing a paper on online gambling and the legality of (or illegality) it. Thanks madjack for the help.

I live in Phoenix. There are a LOT of casinos around Phoenix and up into the white mountains towards Payson.. also in Prescott.
All of these casinos are run by Indians...(I mean native Americans)

More scalping of pale-faces goes on in these joints on a daily basis than anything seen since the Little Big Horn.

Good Luck.. probably too late to help you with your assignment! Sorry
For Gambling Probability Theory and odds of winning check out Wizard of Odds.. a site run by Michael Shackelford.
