Cantona7,

There has never been a problem with "bashing" other posters in the golf forum, so I'd be grateful if you don't start one now.

Stanley

3rd round matchups-

Poulter +103 vs. Cink
Oberholser +120 vs. Harrington
LOCK Els-148 vs. Couples

Betting to win
Oberholser 20-1

I really lover Oberholser. He is playing flawless and has the mentality a US Open champion needs. Phil isn't hitting enough greens to overly impress me, and therefore nobody else on the leaderboard scares me. Oberholser is a cool cat and I look for him to put himself in prime position to win. Els started to play better today and I think he will come out and also get himself into the fold.

Saturday:

Cook(-105) over Imada @ 5dimes
- - Work to be done, then I'll offer a few observations on the graduated Massacre at Winged Foot.

Edit: I suspect they resist the temptation of Cook's son turning in his caddy bib to play as dad's marker, but regardless, I was liking this spot all night long, and was pleased to see a matchup and price I found to my liking.

I believe the last player to win a U.S. Open at over par was Andy North at +1 at Cherry Hills in 1984. Anyone at par is going to win this without a playoff . . . Dave Pelz (Team Mickelson) got it exactly right on Thursday night when he said that if you let it get away from you over a stretch of holes on this course, there is virtually no chance to get it back. Marginal shots get killed (Woods), and the greens are too tough to make all the grinding 4 and 8 foot par putts that are so commonly associated with past U.S. Open champions . . . Sort of makes it tough to speculate on the prospects of any single player, but . . .

Harrington - A Father's Day special with fervent Irish support, sans rainbow?

Oberholser - I forgot to mention that ante-post pick in May was made significantly on the basis of his Ryder Cup ambitions. I really think he's smack dab where he expected to be this week, with his game in order on a course that suits.

Montgomerie - I believe he didn't play a practice round Wednesday because he played so well on Tuesday, which seems about right. I don't think he will, but I actually believe Monty is the ONLY player that could separate himself from the field today by 3 or more strokes (a few dollars on the six-shooter). I do know he carried my cash well while paired with Woods on Saturday at St. Andrews.

Bjorn - There's quite a personal history from similar positions in big events, and maybe his bold putting sets him apart for a run.

Mickelson - If he's finding the short grass on the front nine, he'll be in a fearsome position when the sun goes down tonight.

Duvall emerging from under the radar was not a surprise for one huge day - but moving up the rest of the way and finishing inside the Top Ten would be massively impressive after sounding off about what he knows; Ogilvy has seemed the most Houdini-like in doing exactly his thing; Stricker, McDowell, Poulter and Ferrie were all trending to strong performances, but the early days for being in the frame are now over.

Three decent plays, although my earlier play was the strongest:

Matchups:

Bjorn(-110) over Funk @ TheGreek

Montgomerie(+120) over Ogilvy @ TheGreek

Cink(-125) over Stenson @Bet365

Furyk 8/1 to win w/o Mick

Furyk-105 over Singh @ HW
Donald -115 over Scott @ 5d

Quite amazing Scott and Ogilvy both hit over season ave of fairways and greens on this course yesterday Ogilvy way over his on both--would be surpriised of repeat.Expecting them to return to norm and their sub standard play from rough to come to forefront.

A few players I'm backing today Ober-Harrington-Poulter-Donald-Furyk-Cink
A few I'm fading--Ogilvy-Scott-Singh-Jiminez-McDowell-Monty

Sunday:

Phil Mickelson Wins U.S. Open(-105) @ TheGreek

- - As Mrs. Michael Campbell put it last year during a Sunday phone conversation, "Are you ready for this, Michael? . . .
NO, are you REALLY ready for this?"

Great par by Ogilvy on the last.

Perhaps we should simply move the PGA Tour down under. That would save our guys the trouble of travelling over there to collect all that cash.

Question guys.......I was looking through various golf odds this past week, and I was intrigued to see that Geoff Ogilvy was 100-1 to win the US money title. Of course this was before the Open.

First.....why would he be so high considering all that $$$ he won in the World Match Play and his current standing......and second, was I stupid not to put a little on this?? LOL

Nice Hit LIA on the Ausie. I'm left wondering how Furyk isn't in a Playoff. Watching Phil at the End was just like Watching Payne walking back to the club house with his wife.

Even though Miller drove this point very Hard, Phil should have hit the 4 wood or 2 iron off the Tee. Phil will be back, same with Monty.

Great Tourney!! Ready for The Open in July

FINAL RESULT: 0-3; -4.50pts

Donald 12th
Immelman 21st
Cink 37th

This tournament was over for these selections by the end of Thursday after they shot 78, 76 and 75 respectively. So it is scant consolation that Donald shot the lowest 54-hole score by two shots thereafter and finished just four shots out of a potential playoff.

PGA Tour ytd: 9-57; -17.58pts
