For the most part, our citizens over there are being realistic, but these Americans in Beirut who are bitching about how long it's taking to evacuate them are becoming quite grating.

I won't even go into the 'you knew wtf you could possibly be getting into' argument, because that doesn't work either.

But if they thought about the logistics of organizing a mass evacuation, they would realize that there aren't just ships/helicopters sitting around in every country in case something breaks out.

Very annoying.

They are not being charged now. The State Department issued waivers for all citizens over there. They still have to pay for their trip home from Cyprus.

Not sure what I think on that issue of payment, but i'm proud of our effort to get our citizens out of there.

Ya Know Gentlemen !!!!!!!!!!!

Ya Know Gentlemen !!!!!!!!!!!

If Israel really was our Ally and gave a sh*t about anyone but themselves..they would have informed the United States without whom they would have been lost in the sand in the Sinai in 1973...that they were planing to put in harms way a nation of innocents among them 25,000 Americans. What simpleton said Israel doesn't budge without our approval. From what i have heard Bush was livid that Israel pulled this stunt without informing his Presidentialness

Hezbollah was born in 1982 when Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982.a product of their own making. This will not destroy Hezbollah..it will just make them stronger and more prepared the next time.
U people have no clue about what we and Israel are up against. We are not going to win this fight we are in with a nuke or dropping bombs. We are a declining first rate soon to be former supper power that is getting its ass waxed in Iraq. Yup we did the same thing Israel did ..went in bombed the Sh*t out of the infrastructure let 1,000,000 middle class Iraqis leave to the rest of the Arab world and leave us facing an enemy that we will never beat. Where are the ""FLOWERS"?
Our military is reduced to Recruiters having to enlist petty thieves, mental midgets, emotionally unstable bottom feeders because none of u big mouth "Lets Nuke Em" Types l have the spine to send yourself or ur sons and daughters to defend your nation. AS one 2 tour of Duty Iraqi veteran once said after seeing a "support our troops" decal..Ya wanna support your troops......."Enlist Asshole".. A normal American would not rape and kill a14 year old girl and murder her family.

My Generation went to Vietnam and many of us enlisted before we were drafted.............This generation like George Bush Pee in their Diaper talk big..and wanna NUke Everyone. get a Spine Get some Courage and realize that your are going to have to spill blood to earn all the things u have.
Wars are not won by dropping bombs from the air and destroying buildings. Done..... jump on me for too many subjects or whatever.

O Riley will save them all. Well 2 or 3 anyway. Lets see there were between 25000 to 28000 Americans there. He's all full of him self because he got help for 3. Hell even Ted Kennedy help.
In defense of some of the complainers. It's getting to be alittle bit of a pattern how slow our government acts at times. I hope next hurricane or for that matter next disaster it does not keep up.
My worry for these people is more over word leaking we don't want a cease fire yet. Some of our Arab friends when this all started are wavering. And more from inside Lebanon are starting to blame us instead of Israel. They I mean Rice and Bush better be careful before we get some of our own killed. Or taken hostage. This is not time for games. And leeks to the news.

Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:

Pelosi Calls Out President Bush

Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi is calling on the president to immediately declare that the U.S. will start bearing the costs of evacuating its citizens from Lebanon, instead of charging them, saying, "A nation that can provide more than $300 billion for a war in Iraq can provide the money to get its people out of Lebanon."

But the policy requiring citizens to pay commercial fare plus a dollar for government evacuation was encoded in the 2003 Foreign Relations Authorization Act. That law was approved by the House and the Democrat controlled Senate in 2002. Pelosi herself voted for the measure.

Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:

Who Likes Hamas?

With even the Arab League blaming Hezbollah and Hamas for the violence in the Middle East, it seems the terrorist organizations' last bastions of support are Iran, Syria ? and parts of California. Left-wing protesters chanting their support for the two groups in front of the Israeli consulate in San Francisco had to be separated from pro-Israel demonstrators by police the other day. Many protesters waved Palestinian flags, while some mask-wearing demonstrators wore t-shirts advocating violence against Jews.

And in a Los Angeles Times op-ed today, UCLA literature professor Saree Makdisi says Israel, not Hezbollah, is the true terrorist group, writing that the country has killed "whole families," and is engaged in "collective punishment of the entire Lebanese population."

DTB Some of the pictures are starting to look that way. None military targets. It will just not help the end cause. I wonder how much of our money will find it's way to rebuilding Lebanon.

That's a good plan for a surprise attack.

1. Who cares what Pelosi says.

2. These people still have a God knows how expensive ticket from Cyprus back to Baltimore, Philly and wherever else on the east coast. Then they have the cost of a flight to get to their home from there. I don't think an evacuation from Beirut to Cyprus is excessive. Especially when it's our strongest ally in the Middle East's bombs that they are running from.

3. Apparently Bush and Condi agreed with Pelosi in this case.

Not sure what the point of this 'fresh picking' from the undertaker is.

If he's saying Pelosi is a hypocrite, then I guess Bush and Condi are also. Useless stuff from him, as usual.

Point was if your going to be whining about something "Peloski" you might want to know a little bit about issue.

Useless stuff--Hmm I didn't have a clue before reading why they had to pay for tickets themselves--did you?--and we sure as hell wasn't going to read about it in the times. This very " petinant fact" was somehow omitted from most publications.

---which brings me to another issue--noticed how NYT has stayed away for Israel/Lebanon issue. Normally they'd be all over admin--except this time don't want to offend their Jewish/Liberal element?
You think I'm out in left field on that issue?

Well, I assume she knew about the issue, since she apparently voted for the bill. I guess in this case, she decided that an exception was called for. Similar to W and Condi. I agree with all of them.

I had no idea about that law until 4 or so days ago when I saw it on Fox. It was interesting to me as well. Seemed kind of strange but i'm happy that W and Condi authorized waivers for it.

No idea about your third point regarding the NYT. I never read it and have no idea if they want to offend their 'Jewish' element or not on any issue.

Interesting the difference in attitude towards Katrina victims and Americans stuck in Beirut. One group is left to fend for themselves against the elements and looters while the other is given helmets and personal military escorts out of trouble.
