Great list of songs, XYZ. You brought back some old chestnuts I'd forgotten about.

What about personal favorite rock albums of all-time? Mine are as follows:

LISTED IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER (ROCK ONLY):

Days Like This (Van Morrison)
The Joshua Tree (U-2)
The White Album (The Beatles)
Rattle and Hum (U-2)
Live Farewell Concert (Cream)
Led Zepplin 2 (Led Zepplin)
Beggars Banquet (Rolling Stones)
Theatro (Willie Nelson -- produced by Brian Eno, so it qualifies as rock)
Live at Leeds (The Who)
Abbey Road (The Beatles)
Frank Zappa Live Filmore East (Zappa)
John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band
Let Love Rule (Lenny Kravitz)
The Last Waltz (The Band)
Into the Sun (Sting)
All Things Must Pass (George Harrison)

I'm probably lumped in the "what da f**k?" category with Redsfann; as I concur that Paul Westerberg is indeed a sad, drunk genius

On the course!
Joshua Tree gets the best album hands down, from me.

"Red Hill Mining Town" was a great choice, Anders.

Another vastly under-rated album was Men At Work with "Cargo". A nice follow-up to a great "Business As Usual" album.

Bob Welch's "French Kiss" also.

Agree with lots so far...

U2 Joshua Tree

Anders, I was in NZ when this came out...One Tree Hill has significance for me...isn't that just South of Auckland?

REM Losing My Religion...defining moment in one song...

Not mentioned yet Counting crows Album...August and Everything After...classic debut album...

Also Alanis Morrissette...Jagged Little Pill (album)...Gave me goose bumps the first time I heard it...and several times after. Rock and Roll relationship bitterness personified.

My (lack of) age showing with these selections...

I vote for the story of my life---
I can't get no "Satisfaction".
The Stones
Knew a guy who was a big fan of theirs. When he died(at an early age of around 40 something), he had requested that the funeral home play nothing but Rolling Stones music during viewings. And the funeral director complied.

Scrubbo,

Very Manson, but I must concur. Might I add 'Court of the Crimson King'. 'Little Wing' - personally I think this was the greatest guitar rift of all time. Thanks for mentioning.

Now where did I leave my 'lysergic acid diethylamide' number 25? I know it's around here somewhere. It just slipped my mind:

Lou,

Ihope that this helps. YYZ is the airport code for Toronto. If you fly there, the tag on your bags will be YYZ.

The song does begin with a triangle beat that is the Morse Code for those letters.

That is all I know.

"One Tree Hill" was dedicated to someone who died and every time I hear that song it gives me goosebumps. Also, within the last year there was a song written that I think belongs among the all time greats. (Unless you are a NYC Police Officer) "41 Shots" By the man, Bruce.

"In our hearts we carry the true country..."
Name that tune, another great one imho. JT...

"Comfortably Numb"- Floyd-a good one, like "Wish You Were Here", as well.

"StairWay To Heaven" cracks my Top 5.

ozball, JT -

"One Tree Hill" was written in tribute to Greg Carroll, a Wanganui-born roadie for U2 who died in a motorbike accident.
One Tree Hill was an Auckland landmark for over 100 years - just one lone pine on the top of a Sth Auckland hill. Alas, it is no more
eek.gif
It died last year after being fatally attacked by morons with axes and chainsaws in 1994 and 1999 in bizarre claims they were was trying to grab attention for Maori rights

Sometimes Bono drives me nuts; other times he produces stuff like this that's just mindblowing...

One Tree Hill

We turn away to face the cold, enduring chill
As the day begs the night for mercy love
The sun so bright it leaves no shadows
Only scars carved into stone
On the face of earth
The moon is up and over One Tree Hill
We see the sun go down in your eyes

You run like river, on like a sea
You run like a river runs to the sea

And in the world a heart of darkness
A fire zone
Where poets speak their heart
Then bleed for it
Jara sang, his song a weapon
In the hands of love
You know his blood still cries
From the ground

It runs like a river runs to the sea
It runs like a river to the sea

I don't believe in painted roses
Or bleeding hearts
While bullets rape the night of the merciful
I'll see you again
When the stars fall from the sky
And the moon has turned red
Over One Tree Hill

We run like a river
Run to the sea
We run like a river to the sea
And when it's raining
Raining hard
That's when the rain will
Break my heart

.. and as for the other quiz question JT - great to see Peter Garrett and the Oils get a look in here; an inspirational man indeed and a damn fine band

THE DEAD HEART
We don't serve your country
Don't serve your king
Know your custom don't speak your tongue
White man came took everyone

We don't server your country
Don't serve your king
White man listen to the songs we sing
White man came took everything

We carry in our hearts the true country
And that cannot be stolen
We follow in the steps of our ancestry
And that cannot be broken

We don't need protection
Don't need your land
Keep your promise on where we stand
We will listen we'll understand

Mining companies, pastoral companies
Uranium companies
Collected companies
Got more right than people
Got more say than people
Forty thousand years can make a difference to the state of things
The dead heart lives here

Any more questions of a musical nature?

So Cal
It's hard to pick one; even hard to pick one from an artist. I have to go with one of the great love revenge tunes of all time - Bob Dylan's "Positively 4th Street."
